Okay, last weekends rains were good for a lot of things (sorry, however, for all the grief from flooding on the MO :()...

Pony Creek is now at full pool...which means it came up about 8 feet in a few days... we hit the lake less than a week after it
came up'...to give an idea, an 8 foot rise is about 1/3 increase in terms of total depth...and in many places the 'old' shoreline is now 30-40 yards from the 'new' shoreline...

fishing was very good for the tournament...no 'huge' fish but it took a 'card' of 18" fish to win...fish were caught shallow in floating debris/weeds on Senkos, plastics...spinnerbaits and frogs were being successful as well.

Water temps were mid-70°F and fish were starting to 'lock onto' beds...

If nothing else, there should be a great spawn this year (very good conditions for successful recruitment)...

Sounds like it took some pretty good fish to win it.  Nice to finally have some actual cover to fish now that the water is up.  How did you end up doing in the tournament?

coldfront

Second.  Not enough 18's on the card.

Did get one at 20.5 inches Thursday night though...nice fish...long.  What I'm excited most about however is the flooded vegetation should be nice regarding recruitment/spawn success for a lot of species...

20.5 is a pretty healthy fish in any body of water.  Congrats on the second place finish.  How many times a year does your club/tournament fish there.  Really haven't heard a great deal about it other than these boards.

once a year...then we go molest bass at other lakes...spread out the carnage between KS, IA, NE and MO...

and, for the record, the reason we talk in inches is cause they are card tournaments.  Catch, measure, release.

How are the boat ramps at Pony Creek?  Are they still usable? ~rain

coldfront

I've never had a problem putting my aluminum bassboat in there (shallow draft, 16 feet long)...sometimes had to trim the motor up to keep the prop out of the mud...

But as of a month or so ago, lake was pretty much at full pool...not an issue until Sabetha draws it down to water their lawns again...

I've heard that the state ramp has been taken out and the only usable ramp is in a private area?  Any truth to this? Thanks.

coldfront

no idea...couldn't imagine how that would be done...but haven't been there in a few months now.   But don't hesitate to contact KWDP and ask directly..they'll have the answer.
