Looking at a 1997 Clunn edition 170dc.  So if anyone has a 170 that would be helpful with a few of these.  I will be looking at the boat in a few days so i may answer some of my own questions here.

1: What is the top speed with the 90hp merc force?
2: Can you fit 7' rods in the rod lockers?
3: Decent deck space?  I am a large human
4: overall thougts?

Ron Fogelson

Hi Grape,

I've never been in the 170, I did have a 640 and found it to be more then enough for just me.  However when fishing with a partner we had to be careful while casting so as not to cross rods on the cast.   :bang  I broke one learning the hard way when I was casting and my buddy was casting at the same time.  lo

The Nitros IMO have the best deck for us big boys, they are wide, and stay wide from the seats to the trolling motor.

I also found that my family out grew the 640 with in about 2 years as my little boys became small boys.  Age 1 and 4 to 3 and 6 there just wasn't enough room for those 2, my wife and I to get out on the water for more then an hour or so.  If however we were drift fishing or anchored cat fishing it wasn't as bad but to have the 4 of us casting got scary.  lo

I had a 75 motor on the 640 and the best I ever ran was 42 but I didn't have a jack plate or any set back spacers so not sure what it could have turned with the right set up.  Most times with 2 grown men I would run 33 to 36 MPH GPS.

I don't think the carpet on Nitros are worth a chit and the lid straps used to open live wells, rod lockers and such tend to not be any good but not sure what you have.  Mine were fabric on the 640 but now have metal handles and it's not an issue on the 929.

The nitros are stable, ride well, slower a bit then other same size boats but take rough water better IMO.

As long as the motor is checked out and good, you feel you are getting a fair price you should be happy.  Take it for a test drive, and bring a few poles.  Not as a fishing trip, just as a way to do some casting and working the TM and just getting a feeling for it before you make the final decision.

Good Luck.

thanks for the insight!

Is there any wood used in these boats? I have also been looking at nitros, particulary the 640. There is a decent looking looking 01 640 that I've kinda had my eye on. Wood seems to concern me.

I had a 1999 640 and didn't think there was any wood in it, but I'll have to go double check the paper work.  My brother has it now in MN walleye fishing.

I have a 1999 640 and its plenty big enough for one person to fish from but with 2 it will be cramped.
There is no wood in the boat just composite or whatever they use.

Hey Aaron is that fish and ski?
I have the 1997 700LX Dual console but it has a 120 hp merc force.
I really liked it since it was my first fiberglass boat with a steering wheel.
In all honesty, I have out grown it but still fish out of it and love her to death.
She has been one outstanding dependable ride. AND I ride year round in the same weather your having just up river alittle. My 7 ft'ers fit in my rod locker but I need to be carefull of the trolling motor wires with them. I am a Nitro fan now.
I fish with a big Lab (120 lbs) and sometimes a second partner but never three in the boat.
I will take 3 if they are kids and I'm bream or crappie fishin' and no dog.
Bass fishin: dog or partner not both, the casting is fun, the deck is not big enough for two unless your both very good and get along well  ~shade

Thanks Fogy

I got with my Brother and double checked the paper work "It states it is all composit"; with all my digging around on the net and asking Tracker Customer Service I would have to say No Wood.  ~c~
