HI all,

I am SERIOSLY looking at buying this boat. I don't really need anything big and feel this boat will so my needs just fine. I was wondering if anyone could give me some heads up this thing though. Is there anything to be leary of? Any known problems? Or if I buy the boat are there some things I might consider changing?

Bottom line is that ANY advice will be appreciated...   Thanks

I would have posted sooner but I don't look in this area very often.
I have a 1999 640 with a 75 Mercury on it and love it. It will move between 45 & 50. I haven't had any problems with the boat or motor and the fish don't care that it's not the biggest or fastest on the lake.

Well said....biggest and fastest isn't always the best.

I'll be able to add my 2 cents after this weekend. I just picked up my 2006 640 today (has a 60 though, not a 75) and plan to do nothing but fish this weekend. I'll make sure I get back on here and give you my thoughts  ;)

I'm looking at one just like yours, let us know how it does.

I fished for about 10 hours yesterday (caught 1 small fish...no one was catching!), and a friend joined me for about 4 of those. Couldn't fish today...got called into work  ~b~ First, fishing with 2 people was a a little cramped because he brought probably 10 rods with him. We still made due and it wasn't a hinderance. Other than that we had no problem whatsoever, and with my 60hp merc on the back, we were topping out at about 42. While fishing by myself, it's absolutely perfect. Plenty of space, the boat tops out at 45 with just me on board (these speeds are with full and 3/4 tank of fuel respectively) which if PLENTY quick enough. I love the package. It's super easy to load and unload, tows great with my RAM 1500, and doesn't seem too bad on fuel. There are a few things I want to do right away though like GPS/FF combo at the console (my sense of direction is not good on the water!) and moving my 525 to the bow. Also need a new TM battery (thats another story). Other than that, I absolutely love this boat and I'm looking forward to a lot of happy hours on the water.  ~cf

my 700lx w/ 75 merc will average 44. Best I have seen was 48. Im sure a 640 will be in that 45-50 range with that motor

Understand the GPS and Speedo MPH reading are different, my 640/75hp ran 52 all day long on speedo but never had a GPS on it.

Yea my speedO will say 51, but gps will be 44 and some change

I've changed/added a few things to make my boat more functional. First, I added a 12v outlet. I wired it straight to my crank battery and put an inline fuse in there. Really the only thing I'll be using it for is to charge or run a spotlight while night fishing. I bought an adjustable seat pole (swivl-eze) and a pro butt seat. I find it difficult to operate the TM while standing since it sits on the deck and you're basically standing on one foot. Having something to lean against will be great. I added a little utility pouch (just using suction cups) to the side of the console. I keep my pliers, toenail clippers, and other small things I use often in there. Keeps from having to dig in the lockers. I bought a small coleman cooler and took out the rear port side locker box. The cooler fits perfect in there, and the added insulation of being inside the boat keeps stuff cool all day. Plus, it's doesn't cut down on your fishing space. Thats all I've done so far, besdies replacing a bad recirc pump, installing a replacement transducer and replaceing a bad trim gauge. I couldn't be happier that I bought this boat. I love it.

Something else I've found is that with a full livewell, it take a second or 2 to get out of the hole, which I didn't really find surprising. Thats alot of added weight. Should be even less noticeable for you since you'll have 15 more hp. I didn't see any difference in performance with any of the pumps on while running though which is good.

I have 2 storage tubs on the back deck that I mainly use as a cooler. Problem is when its hot out, all the ice melts in about an hour. So I took the tub out, bought some Great Stuff spray foam insulation from Home Depot, and coated the whole outside of the bin with it. Works like a champ, keeps the ice from melting all day. Only problem is that this stuff expands, so its a pain to remove the bin now. What I did was I drilled a hole through the bottom of the bin and stuck a plastic plug in there that I can remove to drain out the water.

Works great and easy to do
