i just looked at the model # on my motor its.. E120TLCUR to the best of my knowledge this is a 1986 motor , its a evenrude 120. where can i find out what other year lower unit parts i can use to rebuild ?

Hay a friend of mine just replaced the lower unit on his motor. He went around to a few of the boat repair shops, and found a lower unit that came off a motor that burned up do to no oil. He said he got it for half the price of the rebuilding of old one. On top of that they gave him the rest of the motor for nothing now he has extra parts for it.

I think CU is an 87 motor.

Any V-4 LU will work up to about 92 or 93.  As mentioned before, there is a small case version and large case version but both have 2.2 gears in them and either will work but you must have the prop that matches the size gear case, so if you change sizes from yours, you will have to change props also.  If yours is an 87, it should have the small case.  The only other thing you have to watch for is the drive shaft, the motors came in 20" and 25" versions so you would want to make sure you got a 20".  The later motor came with a 1/2" longer drive shaft, so they won't bolt up because it bottoms out in the crankshaft

The best person to talk to about V-4 looper stuff is Chris Laker on screamandfly.com.  He may even have one he would be willing to part with.

Like I mentioned in the other post, I would try to have mine straightned before buy one.

ok , thanks yall. i was gonna tear into it today but i may not have time. so way2slow , you think that a prop shaft could be badly bent like that without damage to other parts of the lower unit ??

I've seen them broken off and not damage anything else.  Check the carrier bearing and replace the seal in it, the shift rod and drive shaft.  If in doubt replace the carrier bearing
