Since it was brought up is anybody fishing Big Hill?  Know that there are a lot of tournaments on Big Hill.  Growing up only 20 minutes away I fish it when I can get home from KSU.  Fished it last weekend and the water was way up.  Didnt catch a lot of fish but the ones I caught had some good size to them.

Fished Big Hill last weekend and caught a few smaller fish.  Finally got into some decent smallmouth again.  Biggest fish caught was 3.4lb largemouth by the buddy I took out.  But it was a good time nonetheless.  Fished another local lake on saturday morning and between my boat and a friends boat we boated roughly 150 largemouth with one tallying in at 5.7 pounds.  We caught them in a small cove schooled up on baitfish.  Was a very good morning for fishing.  I dont think there is any else that checks the Kansas forum.  If there is then start posting so I can quit talking to myself.   :help:

No Fear, I post in here alot.....Well I post alot when I am up at college and have a high speed internet connection.  At home in the summer with dial up I don't get around to posting as much.  I'll try to start posting more.
150 fish! Not a bad day!  I fished Big Hill in a tourney in March and it was pretty slow.  I don't know too much about the lake though.

Fished Big Hill on saturday in the middle of the day and managed 3 smallmouth and 3 largemouth.  Really not anything of size but its fun to try and find the smallmouth.  Lots of pleasure boaters out tearing up the water but it was nice to just get out cast a line.   ~sun

Anybody fishing big hill?  Couldnt believe how good the smallies were biting, not alot of largemouth though.   ~c~

Fished on sunday evening with a buddy and had another nice afternoon.  Started out catching smallmouth then ended the afternoon on some nice largemouth.  Pulled one         22 3/4" largemouth on a crankbait off some stumps and one keeper smallmouth on jig.  The smallmouth bite has slowed down some but the largemouth seem to be getting more active.

Fished again last saturday and the bite was tough.   Finally found them in 5-10 foot of water on wood and weeds.  I had an awful day but the guy I was with smoked me.  All the fish came on blue or black jigs.  Nothing over 17" this weekend.   :'(

This fish came on a senko around some stumps.  I set the hook thought I had a stump, then the stump started swimming.  That was one pretty fish and put up one legendary fight.   ~c~

Thanks Mike.  Hopefully with my three day weekend coming up I can snap a few more pictures.  To be honest I've never really had the boat out in October so it'll be a new challenge trying to catch fall bass.  The weekend cant get here fast enough.   ;)

On saturday we fished the morning and it rained on us for at least a solid 1 1/2 hours.  Pretty strong rain at times.  Couldnt get the fish to hit anything but tubes and french fries in the morning during the rain.  After the rain I caught a few on a buzzbait and then the big storm rolled in and we decided that we pushed the storms far enough.  We ended up catching quite a few fish but we had to work hard for the ones we caught.   ~rain

Fished a different local lake on monday and it was tough.  Caught all the fish on a blue and black jig made by the guy I fish with.  Never really found them in one certain area and again they wouldnt hit anything with any speed to it.   ::)

Thanks for the update ~c~ What was the name of the other pond you fished :-\

Its about the size of a large pond.  The place I fished was a city lake from where I'm from, Thayer City Lake.  Nice little lake but it has gotten weedy and needs some upkeep in order to remain a decent fishery.

Well went out and braved the winds on saturday.  Could barely hold the boat where it was needed due to the 30+ mph winds.  The concensus around the lake was the same, very tough bite.  We ended up catching 5 smallmouth in 25-30 foot of water on jigs.  Think the bite would have been alot better if the wind wouldnt have been so unrelenting.  It was 70 on saturday and now we got snow and 20's today.  Have to love Kansas.   :-\

That had to be tough fishing.  What was the water temp?  And I'm guessing it will be dropping.

Not sure what the temp was.  Probably be the last time I get to fish Big Hill until spring.  I was just glad we were able to find a few in the short time we had.   ;)  Kind of like these santa emoticons.   8)

Anybody going to try and fish over Christmas?  From the looks of the forecast its going to have to be ice fishing!!  Have a merry CHRISTmas and a great new year.    ;)

Hit Big Hill on saturday and had a pretty decent day.  Between my buddy and I we caught probably 10 smallmouth and 10 largemouth with 2 keeper smallies.  Fish were coming on jigs and X-raps in the 8-10 ft range.

mgd0702

Fished Big Hill in the rain this weekend and the fishing was good.  Caught a good mix of smallmouth and largemouth with most fish coming from jigs in the timber.  Water temperature was mid 60's and a little dingier from all the rain that we were thankfully getting.

Any reports from this year?  Might take some time to go hit it this weekend in between turkey hunts. Surely somebody has been there?

mgd0702

Fished Big Hill on saturday.  Fishing was tough to say the least.  Rainy, overcast with a slight breeze and water temperatures in the low 70's should have made for some good fishing, however, didnt do so well.  Not sure if it was the lake pressure since it was Memorial Day or it was just one of those days.  Guess it was better then sitting in the house.

It looks like fishing has been pretty bad for most of the state the last two or three weeks or so.
