I recently had the oppurtunity to test and review a Pro Mega Jig from Omega Tackle courtesy of Omega and Ultimate Bass, again thanks to both for the chance, I gotta say I really loved the jig, I fished it on main lake points for 2 days and by far it was the most productive pattern I used, even better than C-rigging, the jig came through grass/ weeds very well, I had no short or missed strikes with the bait, when fish hit it they hit it hard, I did find that without a trailer it didn't seem to appeal to the fish, I tried 3 or 4 trailers until I found one the fish liked, turned out to be an ultra vibe in black/ red flake, and wat/ red, all in all I found the bait did what it was designed to do fish around structure and it did very well, I would not hesitate to use or recommend the jigs to other angler's

Instead of creating 10 threads, I'll post my review here too.
I appreciate UB and Omega giving me the chance to try out an awesome jig. I received one in "Watermelon Candy" and I was impressed right off the bat. The head design is great and looked very versatile. The skirt had nice colors, it has a quality hook, and I like the collar with the rattle holders. I took a trip to Lake Taneycomo for some trout fishing, but I also got a chance to toss the jig around (even though there's no bass in there). The skirt has a nice flare, but I was most impressed with the head. I was throwing it at every laydown and piece of cover I could find and could not get hung up! I plan on fishing this thing some more and I bet it will be a great flipping jig as well. Thanks again for the opportunity and I'll be sure to post any pics of the fish I'm going to catch.

Thanks for the review guys, I will be forwarding this to the company. I appreciate you putting them through the test and posting results.

The Omega jigs are indeed ok jigs but like everything has a flaw.  Yeah it doesnt hang up but it has a tiny hook in it i dont like the jig for the small hooks in it...........IMO a good jig has a extra wide gap hook that leaves plenty of hook exposure when adding a big ol piece of pork to it

Mike Cork

Crigger Craw, have you checked out their site lately, You can get a very large hook depending on the application :-* The only one that comes with a small hook is the finesse in the lite weigh versions.

never been on their site before all of the different styles that i have come across have a little hook in them IMO..........I am pretty picky on the hook in the jigs i fish.........other than that i hear a lot of good things about the Omega jigs........

The only thing I can think is that you have come across they lighter finesse jigs. Their flipping jig and structure jig have large stout hooks in them?

The hook size on the jig I reviewed was at least 4/0 if not 5/0, very stout shank, all in all a very good set up, after i put the trailer onit, still had plenty of hook exposed, had no problems at all with hooksets, I thought at first I may have needed to trim the weed guard, but after the first few fish with very good hooksets, saw no need to adjust anything

I know its apples to oranges cause I mainly fish smallmouth but have found the same to hold true for our smaller northern largemouth, but I generally pour my own jigs with an undersized hook, I get less spitouts that way, the fish doesn't immediately "feel" the hook as soon as it inhales the jig, and will hold it longer, I also have an excellent hookup percentage and feel that on your standard wire 3/0 or 4/0 hook there is more than enough hook gap to accomodate most trailers, well the ones I use anyway. The only exception to the that is with my flipping jigs, then I go to a ewg cause thats usually "close combat" fishing I give them about a millisecond before I am pounding that hook into there jaw ~c~.  I go all the way down to a 2/0 lightwire hook on some of my football jigs and have no problems hooking up with fish with your average small chunk or twintail trailer, you don't always need 4 inches of hook exposed to get a good hookset, lots of times that trailer is spun out of the way on there strike anyway.

Sorry It took so Long to get my review in.. But with the 30-40 mph winds we have been having it was hard to fish a lighter Jig.

My reveiw of the jig is simply great so far!

I have pitched it and swam it with a few different trailers and it comes through heavy Brush like salt ceadars very well! For those of you that have fished thick salt ceaders you know there is not any harder cover to fish.  ;)  I  really think this Jig will excell in he grass, but Due to our colder than normal winter I really couldn't find any real heavy grass to test it in yet.  :(

I am really looking forward to getting more time with this Jig on the water.  ~c~

Thanks Shawn, when you get to fish it more let us know how it goes  ~c~

I had an opportunity to fish the Jig yesterday.  I got the watermelon jig as well.  I didn't get any takers on it and tried a couple of different trailers,  Which is not surprising because I caught one dink fish all day.  This Jig worked well over the rocks and almost got hung a couple of times but managed to pull through.  It's paint was extremely tough and durable which just about put me off trying this Jig.  Let me explain.  Right out of the package, the eye was painted over.  I guess I am spoiled because generally speaking I don' t see the eye painted shut on any of the jigs I have bought recently and didn't have an eye cleaner with me.  It almost prevented me from fishing this jig, or even wanting to, but eventually I got through the eye, was able to tie it on and throw it.  Because of the painted eye, it really put me off and I don't believe I can recommend this jig.

Thanks for your inputs Dug, I will forward this and all the other reviews to Omega. I'll see if we can't get some input from them on the painted eye? I have used several of the jigs so far with great success and haven't came across one with a painted eye? It may have been a accident that it got out like that but I will definitely forward your response.

Thanks Mike, Yeah it really surprised me.  I am going to have to remember to bring my eye cleaning tool with me from now on, just for those surprises, and man do I have a great tool for this.  Other than than I like the jig.

I have been fishing jigs for a year or two and I never hooked up but a few times however when I seen the Omega jig my line had one on it the very first day it arrived. I used the Omega on long flats and had several hook up with in a hour the thing I do like you can cast it just about anywere with out getting hung.

I absolutely have my confidence back with jig fishing now I'm hooked I hope everyone will try the Omega it worked for me thanks Omega for another great product.

Omega...doesn't do it for me....sorry ~cf

I didn't get in on the contest but instead bought some of my own on their website.

Utilized the swimming jigs, flipping jigs, football head and the savior shakey head.

Best performance came from the flipping jigs.  Didn't hang up in the grass, was able to get it over and out of wood easily.  Works well with a Smallie Sweet Beaver trailer.  Caught 4 bass and two goggle eyes  :shocking:.  The football head jigs worked well in some rip rap and wood.  Also came through the sparse grass and pad stems pretty well.  I enjoyed the swimming jigs as they came through the grass well, don't see much difference between other swimming jigs.  The Savior Shakey head is very kewl, used it with different style baits and they all seemed to catch fish.  Seems like the smaller baits I was fishing attracted smaller fish, but all keepers so would be great to get the limit in the boat then go for an upgrade/Kicker.

In reviewing the Quality - 9 of 10, Selection (types of jigs) 9 of 10, Color Selection 8 of 10 (would like a little more variety) Web site navigation 7 of 10, Price 8 of ten, hooks 8 of 10.    Over all I am very pleased with all the jigs I have fished and would recommend Omega Jigs/products to anyone interested.

Hope this helps, as it was unasked for.  Just thought I would throw in my two cents worth.
