Has anyone tried Skeets new rods yet?

vb3391

Nope, but seriously considering gettin one!

illinoisbassfishin

my local shop owner will have them at the end of this month or he guaranteed me the first week in september.  I will be the first in line to get to pick one out and try it out.  I cant' wait to try one out.  There are a lot of people on other forums that are bashing the rod because of the company who makes it etc. but I'm not bashing anything until I get it out in the boat and get a few days of fishing done with it.  Myself I think it is a pretty cool looking rod.  A lot of people think the carrots are ugly but I think they are pretty sweet myself as well and they perform too.  I hope the Skeet's are as good as my local shop owner says they are.  He went to the icast show and got to play with these rods in his hands and he said the ones he picked up were all lightweight and looked like a nicely made rod.

I am just intereted in hearing how they perform because Skeet is saying these wil be the exact rods he fishes with straight off the shelf.

I did actually get my tessera this morning. I think it is a sweet looking rod and I definitely like the handle material. I put my curado 200e7 on it, which doesn't really match but I don't care, took it out to a farm pond and fished for a while with it and just got home. I got the 7'2" Fast Action Jig/Worm casting rod with the 1/4-1 oz lure weight and 10-25 lb line weight. I will say that it isn't as lightweight as my 7'3" LTX Carrot Stix but there isn't that much of a difference to me. It's still plenty light enough that I know I could fish in a tournament with it all day and it wouldn't bother me a bit. The rod was definitely plenty sensitive as far as that goes. Ifished it with a 1/4 oz tungsten weight pegged to a black/blue chigger craw and did some casting and flipping and it was very nice to flip with especially balanced good for the flipping and it casted great as well. I only caught 7 fish with the biggest being 2 1/2 lbs but it was sensitive on the bites and it had good hooksetting power and a lot of backbone. I will definitely be getting more of these rods. He ordered one of every model casting and spinning models. The first one I picked up was the 8' Flipping stick which I had the intentions of buying. It was just a touch heavier as well as my 7'6" H LTX Carrot Flipping Stick. I am still going to be doing a lot of deeper water jig fishing in the lakes so I went ahead and chose the 7'2" to be the first rod to try. I picked up every single one of the rods that he had and stood there and inspected all them thoroughly for about 15 minutes and every one of them was flawless that I could see and I got some good eyes. Just thought I would post my first day with it. I have 12 days off of work in starting Friday so I will be out on the lakes doing some offshore structure ledge fishing and see how it works. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me.

lol if I like them as much as I think I'm going to like them does anyone want some used carrot stix  :roll2:

Buzbait88

thanks for the great report.  looking forward to hearing more, I've been fishing with way heavier rods so if it isn't much heavier than a carrot stix, I"ll be extremely pleased.  For the price it sounds really hard to beat.  I just wish I could get back to work so I could buy 1 of each.  lo

"Papi! I like this reel. It is so much easier to use than the other one (the spinning reel) and it is more fun to use too." Now all I can say to that is this;
"That's my little girl!"

good post.  I think green and yellow goes nice :)

well took it out in the boat tonight and fished a 10.5 ol monster zoom worm rigged on a 5/16 oz tru tungsten weight and did some offshore structure ledge fishing.  All the fishing was done in 10-25 foot of water.  Paired up with the 15 lb spiderwire fluorocarbon it is very sensitive and I caught a couple 4-5 lbers on it and 4 other 15-16 inchers and it has plenty of power as well.  It has the rubber coated handle which I really like because it rained off and on all evening and the handle stayed dry and beaded off water all evening.  I like the rod so far.  To be honest I wish I would have held on to the money that I used for my falcon bucoo and waited for these rods to come out instead of buying my bucoo.  The bucoo is a lot lighter and is still just as sensitive I just like the tessera better.  Now I'm going to be trying to sell the bucoo.   ~roflmao

well I used my tessera again today and once again it performed flawlessly.  Went to a different lake today and caught some nice fish on it.  Flipped a jig with it and caught a couple 17 inchers and went deep with it with a football jig and caught some nice fish and I've fallen in love with it and have found it hard to put down actually lol.  Like i said I have the 7'3" MH Carrot Stix and it is a little heavier than that but not by much, and it is a lot heavier than the falcon bucoo because they are extremely light, but as far as sensitivity goes it's just as sensitive as my carrots and my father used it today and he said he couldn't tell much of a difference between it and his gloomis imx.  I love the rods to be honest with you.

I really doubt I post them in the for sale section yet, but if anyone is interested in a couple used ltx carrots or a like new falcon bucoo that has only been used 6-7 times let me know and if it's a good price that I wouldn't have much difference left to pay on a tessera I might just be interested in selling them.

I am curious, what is the warranty onthe tessera rods?

lifetime warranty.......if you break the rod you send the rod to them with a check for $30 to pay for return shipping and handling.

Looking forward to hearing your report!

I went out and bought another one.  I got the 7' Spinnerbait/Worm rod.  It is a lot different than the 7'2" Jig/Worm that I got.  It is a lot lighter and so far it works great for exactly what it says it's for.  The jig/worm I got is still working great for my 1/2 oz football jigs and 10.5 inch worms and I've also done some flipping with it as well.  I think they are great rods.

-Shawn-

Does it seem more sensetive than the Bucoo's?

illinoisbassfishin

to compare the 7' spinnerbait/worm tessera and the 7' MH Bucoo I would say that the tessera is more sensitive than the bucoo.  It has the med.fast tip and it's not near as stiff as the 7'2 jig/worm which has the fast tip but it still has plenty of backbone power in the butt.  The tip really seemed to work good for spinnerbaits because you could set the hook and not worry about ripping it out of the fishes mouth, but also I fished a texas rig worm on it and a finesse jig and even though the tip is a little softer it still had plenty of power to hook them and I never missed any fish other than the little tail pullers lol.

I can't wait to get the crankbait rod!!!  I had it in my hands and it's all fiberglass so it's a little bit heaiver, but then again for that price if I'm getting performance I can sacrifice a touch of weight in a rod I mean come on what is it maybe an ounce, 1 teeny little ounce or so lol.  But I really liked the tip on the crankbait rod.  It had a real flimsy tip but the butt section got stiff pretty quick.  I think with that tip and butt section put together you could really launch a crankbait!!

man thanks for the reports. now im gonna have to go buy some. my wife will despise you. :)

Well i got to look over the 8 ft. flipping stick today.I have bought a few custom rods and after seeing this rod it seems to be built very nice.It did seem to be a bit heavy but again it is 8ft. but it has a nice grip and i didn't get to fish with it being he wanted to catch a fish with it he wouldn't set it down.He never got a bump so i cant report performance on it.But in my opinion for 89 bucks i would def. purchase one especially if you like yellow.
