Ok here's the deal.  I got a brand new pflueger trion baitcaster for $20 from where I used to work (sports authority).  However, I think I might want to get a curado in place of it(sell the trion, get a curado).  Not a new curado E series (already have one) because I don't have the money rightn now, but a CU-200 bantam curado (the older ones).  What do you all think?  Keep the Pflueger, or snatch up a Bantam CU-200?  I'm getting ready to order me a G-loomis IMX heavy power, fast action so whch reel should I go with?

NMFishFinder

I would go with a curado if you can, but i have had a pfluger templar as a back up reel for a while and it is pretty sweet, its just low end pflueger

pflueger... I only like Shimano at the super high end $200+ reels

The CU-200 was and still is a great reel. The Trion is also a good reel. I think that reel for reel, it's six of one or a half dozen of the other. The problem with getting a CU-200 now is going to be parts availability. If you already own one, then by all means, try to keep it running for as long as posible. If you have a chance to get one at a really good deal, then sure. But I'm not convinced that I would trade one perfectly good reel that is in production with parts availabel for one that will be hard to fix if it breaks. Thats just my opinion. If you were to get that Trion cleaned and tuned, you would be amazed at the spin times I can do on those. Anyway, whatever you decide, lets get together and do some fishing if it ever warms up around here. I'm looking at getting a lease off of 21st and zoo blvd at the old sandpit. Lots of big bass in there.

You have a good point.  Thanks.  I'll have to keep thinking about it I guess.  I just really like shimano.  And yes it would be great to get together and go fishing, especially at a sand pit.  If it's the one I'm thinking of, I was kicked off of that sand pit years ago when it was still operational.  I caught a bass almost every cast until I was kicked off that is.  lol.  Love fishing pits.  Just send me a message or whatever and lets go!  If we ever see spring that is.....

I am a bargin basement cheap azz mother, TRION; great reel, last long and easy brake and spool control to get used to. I dont fish Shemano, so I can't compare the 2 reels you put up, but i will say the Trion is an excellent reel
If it involves more than drinking coffee and fishing, I aint interested.

acording to the experts who know everything there is to know about everything; the more you spend on a reel, the better fisherman you are; Just keep in mind that:
High End Reels dont start until you break the 400 dollar slot ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao

I have an old greenie that you are thinking or acquiring and I also have a trion. The trion as on par with this curado iteration in every category EXCEPT one. It is also better than the curado (to me) in the feel of the retrieve. The curado isn't a slouch, but I like the feel of the trion's retrieve.

The Curado handles 1/4 oz much better.  With that said, I think that you should keep your Trion and work to acquire a curado.

ARX - IB's Daughter on BC Reels:
"Papi! I like this reel. It is so much easier to use than the other one (the spinning reel) and it is more fun to use too." Now all I can say to that is this;
"That's my little girl!"

luvbassfishin

I would keep the trion myself...they are nice reels as long as you take care of it...it will last a long time for ya

see I always understood it to be the opposite... which is why I recently picked up a Pflueger Trion GX-7 spinning reel... but again this all comes down to personal preference, Pflueger makes quality products no matter if it is $20 or $900, Shimano not so much

Looks like the Pflueger is the reel for you! I have a Templar and a Summit. Quality reels for a great price!

Here's my 2 cents. First if a reel goes south on you it is not going to be the end of the world no matter who's brand it is. Second, making a point that you may not get parts for a CU200 is horse hockey...how many of them do you think are on the market during the what 12-14 years of production? Third keep the Pflueger and buy a used Curado, then decide, both good reels. As I have said before, I don't care who's reel you use...I happen to have Shimano casters, (12) and in that lot 6 CU201, several bought when they first came out @ $89 new. I think I have put 1 pawl on one and one other part on one, upgraded the bearings to ABEC7...they are bullet-proof and good enough for ME, that's the only one that counts...(and I do like Daiwa spinning reels a little better than Shimano)

The question begs to be asked:

What's the difference between horse hockey and horse  ~xyz??

Horse  ~xyz is what you are  putting out there, when a certified reel mechanic says the parts availability may be an issue, and you totally dis that experience because you own 12 Shemano Reels>>> I would take his word here over just some horse hockey  ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao

horse hockey huh. LOL your a funny guy. Call Shimano and ask them how many parts they have left for a CU 200 or any of the early model Citicas, Curados Chronarchs etc. Here let me give you the number 1-800-577-0600 , just in case you are not intelligent enough to look it up. Yes you are correct, they probably made more than a million of those reels. But in case you have not noticed, they discontinued them several years ago. So tell me smart guy, do they have a giant warehouse full of Curado parts just in case you need one someday. One more point, I didn't say there were no parts available, there are still some around. But the most common parts that are needed for regular maintenance are all but gone.  Shimano is now refusing to accept these models at the Irvine CA. service center, If you send them one , they tape it shut and send it back to you. I guess that must be because they just don't want to work on them anymore as you have just told everyone here that it certainly can't be that they don't have parts for it anymore. Disagree with me all you want. Insinuate that I am full of crap and I will call you on it, and let everyone know that you are full of BS.

Well Said Kevin!  ~c~

I have never met Kevin, I have purchased alot of Merchandise from him, I have read alot of very helpful info that he has been willing to share with all of us through the last year.  As a Certified Reel Mechanic it amazes me how helpful he is, as compared to others out there.  My advice is to listen to him!  He knows his stuff and I can guarantee there isn't anyone out there that is better!

With all that said, why would you question him, when in the worst possible thing that could happen is he make some more money fixing a reel?  I'm sure there are some used parts out there, maybe even some left over new parts, I don't see where he said there wasn't.

So, lets get back to the original thread, this one has been Hi-Jacked enough!!!

I would like to apologize to Kevin. I skim read down thru the posts, and was not looking at his company's advertisement at the bottom on his post, (ID'ing him as reel repairs). I am new to UltimateBass, (that's no excuse), have been on other hot-blooded sites before, and did not intend to "sell" my good experience with Shimanos to someone else. Ther are loads of good reels out there today. I was trying to make a point that if the original poster has any one reel and he decides he doesn't like it, can't get parts, or drops it over the side of the boat, it is not the end of the world...I have never had an issue with the limited parts I needed, or service from three shops around the country. I guess I eventually will have issues, but I won't loose sleep until then. Again, I apologize for speaking out of school, and did not mean to insult or question anyone, especially someone with a world more experience and in the business. My bad

BKBASSER

I think you should arm wrestle Kevin and decide it that way lo
I am the king at putting my foot in my mouth, no big deal, it is good to see fellas who are passionate about what they do, welcome, dont sweat the small crap

Personally I'm a pflueger man. I have three of them and wouldn't trade them for anything.

Not even a question. Shimano always when it comes to reels. I love my old Curado Bantam. It is still a go to reel for me after all these years.
