I have a few lews reels. Lews Tournament MG Casting 5:4:1.

i use them for square bill shallow cranks. Paired with 14lb-17lb Flouro test the spool picks up line very uneven. Kind of a wave pattern. This is causing kinks in the line and causing the line to break after a few hours.

Is this normal for using bigger line or is it not designed for anything bigger than 12lb??

Any imput would be great.

it is actually a newer model in the lews line up.. You can contact them about it. I am sure that they would be very greatful for your feedback!

Is the line guide moving back and forth smoothly or is it hanging up. The line you are using should be just fine. My guess is it's a line guide problem.

Sounds like a freak thing to me. I have 15 of them and have never experienced that issue... Send it back and they'll have a new one headed your way the same day. They have the BEST customer service you'll ever deal with.

I had three of them do this.  I talked to guy in the service dept and at the factory they put the screws in wrong and goes in too far and breaks that cheap plastic gear for the line guide.  Really touches the gear and such a thin gear that pushes the plastic gears together and you get that bump which made my line do what you say yours is doing.  Finally got fed up and sold all my Lew"s and went back to Shimano and Daiwa.

I have never had this problem with any of my Lews. even the lower end ones. Call them up and they will take care of it.
