Just fished Grand Lake for Thu-Sun this past week. Fishing was excellent.

Thursday i found myself in coves off of secondary points. Didn't seem to matter that the water was getting dirtier by the hour. Fish were pretty active and weren't afraid to nail the chigger craws I was throwing. Ended up with 10 or so bass (mostly small) in a 4 hour outing. Weather started turning ugly so went to hotel and took a nap

Friday, launched out of Duck Creek and decided to search for cleaner water. Stayed with the pattern that worked on Thursday. The weather remained cloudy but no rain was falling which was a definite plus. I cruised toward the dam and went to the far back of some creeks to see if I could find any beds or roaming bass. Found about ten vacant beds but no cruisers. Started fishing with a brush hog and was pitching the buck brush that was now submerged with the water coming up. I discovered if you backed off a little and threw the edges of the buck brush and slowly brought it back to the boat the fish were there. I tried throwing the Alabama rig for a little while and caught one about 3 pounds that was suspended near a dock. I could not repeat the pattern with the A-rig so stuck with the brush hog and worked my way to the main lake. Learned that the fish were mostly located 2/3 back of the major creeks.

Tournament day Saturday, weather was beautiful, lake temps maintained about the 58 degrees I had seen the previous two days. Started the day working 2/3 into major creeks and worked toward the main lake. all the fish I caught were point oriented. Didn't seem to matter if it was a well defined point. Caught a 4.8 about 1030 on the brush hog and probably thirty that went 1.5 to 2 pounds. It was great day. End day one of the tournament in second place.

Sunday I was confident that I could repeat Saturday because conditions didn't change weather wise. But as always seems to happen the plan went awry. I was down by the dam and lo and behold the water dirtied up something fierce. Allot of debris was washing into the areas I was fishing. The bite took a turn for the worse. I stuck with the brush hog. In retrospect I should have changed to a bulkier plastic and maybe threw a rattle on it, or perhaps went with the jig. Finished the tournament in third place.

Great weekend, Great fun, look forward to fishing Grand again in late April.
