Steve and other Texans,

I must apologize I have only spent two weeks of my life in Texas and did not enjoy it either time but then I have never fished it. But I know many people who don't like PA.
I am sorry for bashing your state but it is off my move to list.
I really have a problem with stating my opinion out loud. ~b~
I am sure it has its good qualities I just did not see them.

I've lived I south Texas and have fished pretty much all across the USA and canada. If I had my choice it would be North Carolina in and around Pamlico, Edenton area. I love fishing for strikers and they have them estuarine sizes there but the big ones are not too far away. The weather down that way suits me fine and there's just enough but not too many hillbillies!  I am biased being from the north but I will say that you are not going to be able to catch more fish with such a variety from smallmouth to largemouth, salmon, lake trout, all species of river trout, walleye, Muskie, northerns, crappie and the list goes on.  We are never not able to go fishing twelve months a year. But the weather is an issue if you aren't used to it. It's worth it in my opinion since I can fish for whatever species I feel like during different times of the year.

Posts like this one often reveal that most folks are happy with their lot in life.  Home is home no matter where it is.  Some like it cool some like it warm but above all most just want to be in familiar surroundings and around family and friends.

We have lived in SC longer than any place we have lived and yet we often think about considering a move to Tennessee.  That is not gonna happen but knowing what I know now it would have been perfect for us.  25 years ago the beach was a very small area and now it is a retirement mecca and tourist destination with all the things that come along with the growth.  Although this is sad this is most likely where we will stay the rest of our lives.

Of all the places we have lived, I am partial to New England.  We were used to the winters and rewarded with spectacular summers.  Fishing was good and we had great friends during our eight years there.  Now I want a warmer winter climate. Another favorite place is Northern California but I can not imagine living there but it sure is beautiful.  As one ages your needs change and you realize that living in a remote area is not always in ones best interest.  This is sad but oh so true.

TN. My son lives outside of Nashville. The winters are cold but smallies crush jerkbaits on Center Hill and Dale Hollow in the cold. In the summer hit the rivers. Some of the rivers don't get over 75 degrees

Funny guy.
Well I hear you don't have roach problems in Florida either, there's just "palmetto bugs." If you don't know what the difference between a roach and a palmetto bug is – a palmetto bug is a roach with wings that's large enough to carry away screaming children from their mothers' arms. One time I thought I saw bear in Miami but it was just a palmetto bug fist fighting a grown man on two legs.  :o  lo ~roflmao

J/K of course
That wasnt a bear, that was our swamp ape. Also known as BassinLou

<")))>{

My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

Zippyduck, no need to apologize brother.  You just never had the time to visit and fish in our Great State.  There are some parts of Texas I don't like either  ;)  But I love the Winters, Springs, early Summers and the Fall when we get one  here  8)

I've lived in Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Alaska and now here in Texas.  For me every place has had it pluses and minuses.  But for the weather wise and just Bass Fishing Texas wins it hands down.   Louisiana is a real close second.

I can't take the cold any more but my time in Alaska was the best ( 9 ) yrs of my military career.  We dressed up for the cold winters and got out of the house and made the best of it.  Fishing is alright if that's the kind you enjoy.  I did the salmon and halibut charter thing.  Got into some Combat Fishing which I didn't enjoy at all but checked that block as having did it.  I wasn't big in big game hunting although I did go Caribou hunting on the North Slope once.

Like Bud mentioned >  Posts like this one often reveal that most folks are happy with their lot in life.  Home is home no matter where it is.    Presently mine is in Texas  ;)

I have lived in Pa and FL. Both have there Pros and Cons. But I have traveled through every state in the "48" but for North Dakota.

Out of all those I have to say that each has it's beauty and it's bad side, but Heaven has to be Eastern Tennessee/Western North Carolina/North Western South Carolina/North Georgia.

In any of those 4 in that section you have: Great Views, 4 Seasons- with none being overly bad, Your Choice within a short drive of Mountains, Ocean, Rivers, Lakes, Streams, Cites and Country Living.

Good People. Good Fishing. Good Hunting. Good Cost of Living.

I wouldn't move to Florida, if I moved it would be to leave New Yorkers not follow them!! lo lo lo

I'd have to say Northwest AL. The winters aren't terrible, but the summers are a bit sticky. I'd take humidity over the yuppies in Cali any day. Within a couple hours drive from where i grew up there was Pickwick, Wilson, Smith Lake, Cedar creek, Bear Creek.... tons of good water. If you were feelin froggy Guntersville was only about 2 and a half hours east.

I would have to agree, I have not spent a lot of time in the midwest though so I can't say they woulld not be a good place.
But the whole area that you described is one of the friendliest, relaxed place in our country.

facts are, every place I've lived the people have been great.  Most of them.  there are a few in every crowd, every state.

just don't talk religion or college sports (the other religion ;D).

If I weren't living here in TN, TX would be my second choice.

Yes.  I prefer to live where bass fishing is awesome and the folks there also see gun control as the ability to hit what is aimed at...
