This is my review for my day fishing and participating in the one rod/one reel contest

Rod: Dobyns Extreme HP DX743c
Reel: Lew's Team Lite Baitcaster
Line: 12lb K9 100% Flourocarbon

Baits:
Glidebait:   Sebile Magic Swimmer medium size (Don't remember the length)
Topwater:  Duo Realis Pencil 110
Crankbait:  Megabass Flap Slap crankbait

Dobyns Extreme HP DX743c:
The 743c is my favorite rod and I use it more locally than any other rod.  I decided on it because it is so versatile.  It has enough backbone to handle just about anything,  yet is light and limber enough to have excellent sensitivity.  I cannot say enough about this rod.

I started off way before daylight and used the Pencil 110 first.  The rod handled it very well.  It would not be my first choice for a large walking bait,  but it didn't leave me regretting my choice.  It handled it good and I could literally throw it from one bank to the other.

Once the topwater started dying,  I switched to the Sebile magic swimmer.  This bait does very well on the river here and the rod handles it extremely well.  It would be my choice if we had only gotten to choose one bait.  Most of my fish came off of this bait.

I switched to the crankbait when we reached a point that I knew had fish on it and they would not hit topwater at all,  and didn't seem to want the Sebile.  I got a hit within the first two cranks of the reel on the first cast,  lost him after a short fight,  then got another hit before it got to the boat.  I got him in,  threw it back and made another cast.  I immediately got another strike and landed it.  After all that,  it was never touched again.  go figure.  The 743 would not be my first choice for lighter crankbaits,  but it performed very well and I could cast it a mile.

Lew's Team Lite: The Team Lite works great for me.  I guess that is why I have 6 of them.  It will throw anything that I will use.  It handles larger baits as well as the light stuff.  I can easily set them up for the bait I am throwing and never worry about backlash.  It also is small and pairs very well with the 743.

K9 100% Flourocarbon: I had never used K9 line until they became a sponsor here, and felt that I owed it to a sponsor to at least try his product.  When I first spooled it,  it was great on the first trip.  The second trip it had a lot of memory and I was not too pleased.  I sprayed it with KVD conditioner and it settled down to what it was before and I was good again.  I had to spray it again a little later,  but by the end of the trip it was performing great.  I have not had a problem with it since. I will use this line in the future.

The three baits that I chose are some of my go to baits.  they are baits that I knew would work well where I was fishing,  and they were probably all that I would have used if I wasn't in this contest.

I look forward to reading about your adventure during the contest.

You are entered in the drawing. Looks like you and Brent have similar taste except you used completely different techniques on the same set up. The Dobyns 743hp must be a special weapon.

Nice report. Zippy, that 743 is a must have rod IMO.

I think I may buy a second one.  It is a great shakeyhead/Texas rigged worm rod.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

I guess I set myself up for that.  I am finding that I have to watch exactly what I say around people with a dirty mind.... ;D
