Alright, quick question guys....

I am winterizing my ranger boat w/ johnson 150 on back and need to know how much lower unit oil I need to put into it. I am quessing that it needs a quart but I want to double check.

Please advise

I am not sure of the exact amount, but when you pull out both plugs in thte lower unit, you pump oil in until it runs out the top plug, then put the plugs back in....I am pretty sure it is more than a quart though.

Would'nt hurt to have an extra one handy  ;)

well with my 50 horse it does not take much to top it off and set it up for the winter. by filling from the bottom it will get any water out if there is any. I check at my local marina and the mac. told me "you do not need to change it if you fill it from the bottom twice a year". He said also "by doing this you can see if it is got a water leak or if it is gone bad do to heat or what ever". the amount that come out the top whole should be clear as the stuff going in. if so it is set for the winter, if not then have it check out for the reason that it is not clear!

hope this help you out!

Usually only takes one quart. How much did you need Yitbos  :-\

I don't think I'm going to get the chance to winterize.  Would it do harm to use it all year here in California??? ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao

Cal, now think about how much faster you're wearing that motor out using it all year long. Those ice-bound anglers will be getting twice the years out of theirs!  ;)

true, absolutely true,...but then again I'm not using snowsuits to do the ice fishing in either.   :roll2: :roll2:

Agree with Cal I use mine all year long best way to avoid boat freezing, But I bet Cal is like me and don't fish with one of those rods that fits in a glove box either.LOL

Chris, I'm 1.5 hrs from Scottsborough we should get together sometime! I love the lake but haven't figured some things out yet!!
