Trailer Winch size recommendation

I have a 2,400 lb boat (I don't know if that is with the motor or not, I found that on the blue book for boats) and have a 1,400 winch. I am thinking I need a bigger one to help winch the boat onto the trailer. What size should I get? I was thinking one that is at least 3,000 lb, but I saw somewhere where it said to get one that is 3/4 the weight of the boat. I prefer to have more than I need than over-extend the winch and wear it out faster. Thoughts?

Get a Fulton 2 speed 3200 lb winch. You can winch a tank if you need to.

I have that same one as FD and it is a great winch, definitely recommend it.

I'm wanting to replace mine as well and been looking at the Fulton FD mentioned. Technically with the boat floating and loading at the ramp, the load isn't normally that great, but I believe more is better also.

Our ramps are pretty steep and I don't have the rollers. I need something a little extra to get the boat up all the way. I think this would help a lot.

A good helping hand is to spray your bunks with silicone spray after you launch the next time. I think you will find it will help to hull to slide easier when loading. It also makes the winching process a little easier.

Also when you back down to trailer your boat, back down far enough to get the boards completely wet

All good things to know that I was not aware of! Thanks guys. Bud, do you spray them every time or does the silicone dry in the heat and help maintain the slickness for a few launches?

No, just every once in a while if I think the hull is not sliding well. My Carpeted bunks are in great shape so not much is needed. As they wear it may require more spraying but I really don't think a lot about it. The front capture bunks on my trailer are composite without carpet and they are always a bit slick but it is good to have them wet. Good tip posted earlier to back the trailer down prior to loading to get them wet and then move the trailer into position and then load. I have no experience with a boat like yours. I am only familiar with bass boats.
