crooked soft plastics

If you have soft plastics that have taken a set in bad way, not straight, straight when they should be curled, what ever, dip them quickly in a pan of boiling water then lay them out in the shape they should be and they'll be good to go when they cool. Leave them in the water for just a few seconds so they don't melt.

I have a bunch of flukes that are all crooked and don't behave well in the water.  I'll have to try this soon, as fluke season is in full swing here....

Boiling your baits will add some suppleness and softness even if they aren't bent/crooked. It works with soft plastic baits as well as lures. I've boiled Spro hollow body frogs etc. With some success.

Ive read this tip years ago somewhere and I tried it. I must have done something wrong or have some tough or contrary plastics. I had some zoom flukes in a boiling pan of water trying to get the tails to straighten out. They did a little but I would have thought after a few minutes they would have went completely limp.
Has anyone actually timed how long to let them cook? I did 2 minute intervals. I  did this till there was a slime starting to form in the pan.
Most were better but the ones that were bent in the thicker parts still had a crook in them.

I have heard of this before but never tried it. Sometimes a crocked bait will catch them better than the original shape

Yes sir. The problem (I think) was many of them never got completely strait to start with. But I laid them out on paper towels on the counter as soon as I pulled them from the boiling water. I'm not a perfectionist but the ones bent up in the body part well they were still bent. The tail portion where it was thin did seem to do pretty good though.
That tip end doesn't bother me as Bassinkorea mentioned I also fish them with a little bend here n there. They still work I just like the body part to be strait.

Been doing this for a lot of years now, but you know BK makes a good point. Sometimes those mishaped ones work better than the way they are supposed to be shaped.

Walleye anglers sometimes rig live worms or plastics with a curve to them on purpose with a swivel in front so the lure spins as they retrieve it.

I never did it with fatter baits just worms I would think that holding the bait by the tail and soaking the fat part of the bait longer would work, wear gloves.

With a trick worm or Senko I sometimes purposely put a a little bend in the worm between the eye and the barb.  This gives the plastic a little more action when fished methodically slow.  Just watch for any twist in the line, or use a swivel when experimenting.

Absolutely,I do that with flukes all the time Dip em till the tail straightens out and let em cool
