Was fortunate to fish this Labor Day in the Glades today. Arrived at 0 dark thirty. The air was cooler for a change. I haven't fished this system in a couple month's and was pretty excited to see what it had to offer.

Water was little stained, and there was nice breeze in the air. The bite was slow. Tried different type of top water lures, all to no avail. Instead of forcing top water bite, I switched gears and fished the bottom. Fortunately I managed to pick off a few bass here and there with my bottom presentation.

Had several lulls, but also had short periods of sporadic bites from time to time. I decided to switch to a swimbait and managed to catch a few little chunkers. The bass weren't big but they weren't dinks either.

Just when I thought I had these bass figured out, the bite shut down again. I called the trip by 11:30ish.

Not the most productive of outings but still managed to catch a few and had fun.

Thanks for reading.

Lou,  thanks for your posts.

What ramps were open out there?   I took my son out alligator alley this weekend to bank fish and all the ramps we passed said closed. We saw a few boats but no trailers so assumed they ran from holiday park or ramps on 27?

Thanks

I haven't been out on the alley for months. There is too much high water spilling into the marshes.

As far as the signs, do they say the ramps are closed to boats?  Or closed to air boats? Fwc does this from time to time to protect the wildlife from people.

Signs just say closed. Previous years there was more description stating high water was reason.
Sorry just assumed when you said everglades you were talking there.
Water was very high and with ramps closed they are getting clogged up with water lettuce.
I want to get boat out but heat has been crazy all summer and now as it starts to cool ramps are closed.

The heat has been crazy this summer. There are a few places that have open ramps. 27, Holiday, Sawgrass, and Holey lands are options to consider. The water is high at all of these locations also btw.

FYI, whenever in doubt, go to the fwc ramp finder app. It will tell you which ramps are closed. As of right now, the ramps along the alley are open. The only two ramps officially closed in the area are the 2 off 27.

Blue means the ramps are open. Red means closed.

Those signs, lead me to believe that the areas are closed to airboat traffic, out in the marshes. Another option we have is to call  FWC, they are very helpful when it comes to explaining what's going on.
