Has anyone tried this brand of line yet?  I have customers asking about it but haven't tried it myself nor heard anyone talking about yet.

OHbassaholic...I have tried it on my crappie poles....It has a lot of
memory...and the twist were terrible....I only used the 8 lb test..
on a spincast reel......If I recall correctly the knot strength was not that great...I lost several big crappies using it....needless to say I discarded it...this was 2 years ago...it may have been improved since then.......

All I know is that I dont like their hooks, caz u can set the hook and they dont penetrate so that might give an idea to how the line is. But if it is popular and they want it (more money for u)

You broke 8pt on crappie?!?  :o  I can understand you discarding it!  ~rant

With that kind of report, I doubt that I am going to see any positive reports about this line...

Wally world had all of thiers on sale last summer for $1.99 a roll no matter the weight so I bought some 20 and 30 for leader material for when I am out on the flats chasing reds. Well, it sucked as a leader material too. After the first trip I came home and pitched both rolls of it. It's funny (ironic) because it was the knots that were breaking on hookset, palomar knots at that!

just tell them about the cajun red line you cant beat it with anything for the durability, strength, and price.

We couldn't get rid of the red stuff till we put it on clearance...

We are always out of Stren Magnaflex because I got my entire staff hooked on it and we recommend it to everyone.  I'm trying to figure out whether Berkley has quit making it, we won't be carrying it, or if there is a packaging change coming.  What's left on hand is on clearance right now, so that means one of the above situations is happening.

bassmaster350

I lot of ppl (you know what they think) that its red and fish can see it and run away. But man eagle claw is gettin cheap on everything. Everything breaks and you cant catch crap on their hooks I have sharpened to a razor blade tip and I had tried and tried and tried missed about 15 bass in a row with them and couldnt catch crap. Well all I can say about the eagle claw line is its not made for everyday fishermen.

Cajun line has a good argument about red disappearing quicker in water than others.  I think the stretchiness turns folks off.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from members who have used the Eagleclaw line.  The boss had one of my crew put it on an endcap which is prime realistate in a retail store.  If it's junk, I'm going to pull it off!

bassmaster350

ill buy some 12 lb test and put it on one of my cheapy reels and tell you how it does.

OHbassaholic....concerning the Stren Magnaflex...I went to buy some the other day..and their were only two rolls left...all the other lines and some new lines had come in...but the salesman said they did not get any Magnaflex.........is this line history or what...I would hate to have to start looking for another line in the tourney season.......

I'm looking into it Topcat.  Plan to call the corporate buyers on Monday to see if I can find out what's going on.  In the mean while, I'll also send an email to my contact at Berkley to see if he might release some information.

Thanks OHbassaholic....let me know what you fine out about the...
line.....

Eagleclaw line is about as good as any of the $2.99 rolls of 500yard lines like shakespear or southbend. You get what you pay for and sometimes you pay for more than you get. Go braid and never look back. If you are in a clear water situation tie a Flouro leader to the braid. Stength, feel and castability. Its got it all. I prefer Power-pro, I tried Suffix and Calcutta and they were loud coming through the guides. JMO  ;)

P-Line CXX has my business. After 2 weeks now of heavy fishing I am tickled pink with the product. I have been giving hard hook sets on the 6lb test and have not snapped it. I am very impressed with it's performance as well as it's price. Very affordable!

OHbassaholic

My contact with Berkley says they are still manufacturing Stren Magnaflex...for now.  Kinda seems ominous...  They think too highly of that new Dura Tuf.

I spooled up some 6lb. test Cajun line to try it out and after struggling with the previous lines, this line's a dream - it casts effortlessly, I've had no problems with a hook set or too much stretch, and the knots hold firm. I love it.

Thanks OHbassaholic.....the saleman where I buy my line said that.. he did not think that they were going to be getting anymore...then he tried to sale me some Dura Tuff........

I am going to try and find me some big spools of it before they up.. and discontinue it.........

Ohbassaholic....have you tried the Dura tuff.....do you sell much of
it ........and does it have the same diameter as the Magnaflex......
I knew when they sold out...the new owners would tinker with that line......MAN....I wish it was not so.....

I agree, Topcat.  I let my contact know that there would be a great many people upset if Magnaflex was to be discontinued.

I tried the DuraTuf and lost fish using it on a spinning reel while throwing lipless cranks.  The same setup with Magnaflex the next day did not have that challenge.  The only lures I lost last year were from that line breaking off.

as far as memory, haven't had any problems with that yet, but as far as abrasion? I haven't really fished it in heavy brush yet, but I have managed to cast into several trees overhanging the water and gotten the line back intact with no ill effects to the line that I could see, it still felt as smooth as silk with no rough spots that I could feel.

OHbassaholic

Haven't heard any complaints about use around wood and veg.  It's the dang rocks that kill DuraTuff.

Fishaholic

rocks kill almost everything  :roll2:...unless is the soft, algae covered ones  ;)

OHbassaholic

Where there's rocks, there's smallies, and that is where you will find me.  That's why I love Magnaflex and PowerPro.  Magnaflex is the only mono I will use around rocks since I field tested for Stren 4 years ago.  Out of the four lines I tested, it is the only one I continued using.  Superbraid and Heavy Cover got 2 thumbs down, Original got 1 thumb up and the Magnaflex 2 thumbs up from me.  The entire team agreed about it and the Original.  The other two got mixed reviews.
