I want to get several (2-4) spinning rod/reels and 10-12 casting rod/reels over the next year or so.  I think that the $100 range in rods and reels is the way to go personally.  I don't want to spend $500 on a rod and reel (or just the rod or reel for that matter).  What are the best reels in that price range ($100ish - $150 and under will be considered and helpful)?  I  am thinking about getting some Pro Qualifier or CarbonLite baitcasters by BPS or Daiwa Excelers (I have two, and love them, but a year ago they were $20 less than now!)..  I'm not sure, but if the Pro Qualifiers or CarbonLites are good reels, I'll probably want to go that way.  Thanks!

Just so you guys know if you didn't already... Abu Garcia, Pflueger, and BPS rods/reels are all made by the same company.  They use all of the same components in their similar items.

I own Abu's, Curado's, Prodigy's. One of my favorite reels, that has been growing on me more and more is the Pro Qualifier 7.1. This reel is so nice to cast, feels great, love the dual breaks. It really feels like a 180.00 reel in all aspects. I like my other brands but my next reel purchase will be another PQ in a low gear ratio. Its not a matter of saving 80.00 over a revo. I like the reel that much. I've landed a few good size fish with the reel and the drag works very well. If you are considering one, you will not be disapointed.

I have shimanos and garcias, but was real impressed with the BPS Carbonlite I bought for my wife.  You can get one right around $120 or so.  It seems based off of a high end garcia, like the REVO STX, because it has internal and magnetic brakes.

I have been using several pro qualifiers since jan 2009 and I am very impressed by them. I use them for every application including braid. They have dual brakes and you can catch them on sale at bps for 69.99 several times a year. They are normally 99.99 and the beauty is, if there is a problem...BPS will always exchange them. I fished over 45 tournaments this year with them. Still in great shape

Look into the kvd spinning reels. I got the kvd20-A off of eBay for $50 can't beat it. One of the smoothest spinning reels I ever used. Check one out,u won't regret it.

I think I am going to go with the PQs, but I might try out a Carbonlite reel... I'm also stuck between the Abu Veritas rods or the Carbonlite rods by BPS for my next several outfits..

I have heard that the customer service/warranty on BPS stuff is incredible.. Broken tip = new rod at no charge.  Some problem with the reel even if the associate doesn't see it, they will replace it.  That kind of service really pushes a product in my mind.

Check the various on line sites....alot of sales will be going on now as the fishing season winds down and with the holiday season coming up.  BPS has the PQ on sale for $70 right now and while I don't have one I've heard very good things about them.  This year I was able to get a Quantum Catalyst and a Daiwa HSTA for 40+% off by shopping around (both have been very good performers for me).   I also added a couple of Falcon Low Riders and a BPS Carbonlite this season and been very happy with them.

There are a huge number of both rods and reels in your price range.  Try to get into a store so you handle the products first...match up rods and reels that you're interested in and check the balance out....sometimes this can be more important than overall weight, sensitivity etc.   With a poorly balanced combo you'll end up with poor accuracy and a sore arm.

An opportunity came up where I can get 09 Revo S for $50 and Revo SX for $60, so I'm going that way, but I will try some BPS stuff in the future.

Thanks

Couldn't agree anymore.. It's gonna take some wheeling and dealing with $400 cash, but they just want to get rid of them, so they'll take it eventually!  I'm just gonna say I have $400 cash, and I want 8 of those Revo Ss or 6 or 7 Revo SXs
