Jim, you mentioned that the smilies didn't work in the edge browser in Windows 10. I now have this browser and it's so simple I kind of like it. However I'm having the same smilie issue. Did you ever figure it out?

Haven't tried Edge too much yet, didn't care for it initially.

On an up note, I can now get on UB from the house again! Everything started working on my WiFi this afternoon, including mail! :shocking:

I can see the smilies in Edge. However, I can't make them come up when trying to post them.

Mike, I went back to Chrome, and just use edge once in a while, haven't tried it recently, sorry.

This is the same problem I'm having. I can type out the code and it works but it won't click through? I'll dig for some settings.

Steve, why didn't you like it? It seems very simple to me and I'm all about simplicity.

I think that's the reason, I can't get to any "deeper" settings to try and change things like this. Plus it keeps coming back to Bing as the search engine at times even after I've changed it! ~rant I don't care for programs I can't set up the way I want to.

It is definitely a basics only kind of program.  Going to hurt when they go up against Chrome and Firefox.

The smiley issue is the only problem I am having with Edge on UB. Since I don't belong to any other forums I don't know if it is limited to UB or not.

From what I am hearing they have some big improvements coming down the road for the Edge browser. Of course, they aren't saying how far down the road or if you will have to pay for any add-ons to the browser. Time will tell.

On a positive side, I do like the readability view for some things and the ability to mark, notate or write directly on to the web page and then save it.

It's a young browser designed around MS goal of all programs/apps looking the same no matter what device you are using. IMO that is going to limit some of the things they will be able to do with it. Again, time will tell.

Well, I just found out by accident, I guess that both Edge and the updated Chrome won't run Java script anymore.

Everything has to be HTML5, I think it is.

Just my personal opinion again, but I believe that is a good thing for the end user. I stopped installing anything that requires Java over a year ago. That environment just allows so many nasty and malicious things to propagate. From the web designer/developer perspective it might be a PITA, at least for a while if they have to change over large portions of their code. Personally I was happy to hear this  when I found out about it.

Like I said just my opinion.

It doesn't matter to me either way except when it keeps me from running updates through some of the big name products.  Getting Nvidia to finally set up and install my video driver was a PIA, but it is done so life is good again.

Got this in an email from one of the tech sites I subscribe to. Thought I would share it.

Microsoft Edge is Going To Start Blocking Browser Hijackers

A change has been made so that in-process DLLs for the Microsoft Edge browser must be signed. This change means that the Edge content processes will only load Microsoft-signed or WHQL-signed DLLs. 3rd party signed or unsigned DLLs will not be loaded into the Edge content processes.
This is a really important development. All of the crapware and malware out there that hijacks your web browser does so by inserting a DLL into the running process and then hijacking your search page and new tab page. This will prevent malware from hijacking the process.
For now, at least. How long until they figure out a way around it?
