The idea has been floated by Rangerman that we may want to move the rally from Lake Norman to Santee for the 2017 rally.  The proposal is to seek an arrangement with Short Stay for this event.  While we understand that it may reduce the number of participants it may return the event to be just Ultimate Bass Members versus the open format we have been using at Lake Norman.  We are considering the same annual schedule as the past 6 years just a change of Venue.

October offers some great fishing at Santee with some of the best weather of the season.  We are just curious how the membership feels about potentially holding the event at Santee.  For your military active duty and retired folks this might be a great bargain if you are willing to make the trip.

We held two rallies on Santee back in 06' and 07' and they had great turn outs. Short Stay is a great place, central on the lake if you include the Cooper River. Both of these events were in October and the fishing was amazing... In 2017 I think I could pull this off. It's exactly 999 miles from my front door to the gate at Short Stay, but if Laurie and I made a week out of it, it would be worth it.

T1A, here on the site (hasn't been active for a while) is a big wig at Short Stay so we could get some help with accomidations...

I would like very much to finally be able to attend a UB rally, and being that it's close to home, I would love to see it happen!  :)

Awesome!  Plz consider opening the event to potential UB members.  I have a few friends who have Santee on their bucket lists.

Just tell them to come on line and register as a member and then no problem.  They might even enjoy participating in the forums and feel more comfortable participating in the Rally.  Who knows, you might even trip on down to Guntersville one of the future rallies.

A member here on Ultimate Bass posts under the screen name Santee Bass.  His name is Inky Davis and is a very well known bass guide on Santee.  Hopefully we can get Inky to participate with us to set up the rally and to provide help to those who might need some navigation information.  Santee has a reputation of being dangerous because of all the stumps but I can assure you that if you pay attention you will be just fine.  I don't recommend running on plane when not in a marked channel unless you know for sure where you are going.  Santee is a shallow impoundment and it only takes a blink of an eye to get into trouble and tear your lower unit up or get some other damage.  I believe this is similar to the conditions that you folks down in LA,FL and MS face all the time.  Usually the folks from up North are a bit timid about fishing here.

I'm in! Want to fish Santee and I like the shift in focus on UB members. That to me is what really makes it a rally.

Here is a copy from another thread.

We are considering moving the Rally to Santee next year and have it for Ultimate Bass members only.  We understand this will cut down the crowd but it would be nice to just focus on Ultimate Bass members.  Santee in the fall can be a real thrill.  The bass are big and the Stumps are everywhere just ready for flipping and jigging.  We are considering running the event out of Short Stay and will allow any participant to trailer to their favorite location anywhere on the Santee Lakes  (Marion or Moultrie)  or the Cooper River.  More on that next year.

Bud, since you mentioned Inky, as it turns out he's a neighbor of mine. He lives just down the street from where I live.  :)

I had no idea you lived in Manning.  I have known Inky for a few years now.  He is the man to fish with if you want to go back into the swamp.  If you ever considered hiring someone to take you to some great spots he is the guy.  Rangerman and Inky have been friends for many years and thanks to him, I was able to hook up and fish with Inky.  I have not fished with him since he got his Sterling a couple years ago.

Yep, I may have mentioned a few times that I now live in Manning.  ~shade

Fishing with Inky is one of those things on my bucket list.  :)
