Fished the Red today from safe light until 1430 and it was tough for me.  Caught one a little over 2lbs first thing this morning on a chrome/blue/black stripes 1/2oz rattle trap.  Missed one on a june bug big dead ringer, I think he felt me before I felt him. Then had one that looked to be better than 3lbs scare the crap out of me.  I was pulling my brush hog out of the water next to a stump right next to the boat when he came out of the water mouth open and ready to eat.  I fished the same area for another ten minutes to no avail.  Came close to a big fat zero today.  Tomorrow the bite should be better with the high pressure shifting to the east and the winds coming from the south.  That will get the pressure falling some.

Hi BHenke....pretty much the same for me...I ran out of Clarks to Caspiano.....bite was slow for me and others I talked to also...

All my bites came on blue bruiser Lake Fork Craw Tube.....managed to get 2 in the boat...one near 17" and the other a good 13 or so....Broke off on a hook set on another...should have retied sooner.. :'(

Had some other hits but kinda like you they felt me before I had a chance to get a hook in them...ha

Others were having pretty much the same luck..Tomorrow should be better with the front comming in Monday..

I'll be back in the morning..

Went to the Red again today....had an OK day but slow...I did manage 5 fish....all keepers with largest just a little over 14"....All fish came on a chrome/blue  rattletrap or shad colored XPS lipless crank..

Tried my tubes allot but never got the first bite...

Also I was with 2 other boaters...friends from work....both of the other boaters...2 in each boat...had 12-15 bass each...All their fish also came on rattletraps..one was even fishing a crawfish red one and did pretty good...

Most of our fish came in Caspiano then ran to the White House..first time in there for me....and picked up a few more....Looks like a good area I need to spend some time in to learn..  :)

Water was a little stained in Caspy but still somewhat clear...was surprised to see the water in the Whitehouse area was extremely clear..

Guess I should have stayed with the rattletraps today...will try again Monday if rain permits...maybe even try for some perch in the Bamboo.

Interesting thing I heard that I thought I would share - Daniel, my TCTC partner, caught a few on the river last week.  Cleaned his fish to find they were all full of eggs.

Hawgwild

Hi Gabby...yep...many of the bass I keep are full of eggs....I think they will continue to mature untill spawn.....

And considering the mild winter we have had here wouldn't be surprised to see that happen in late Febuary...

Went out yesterday with a couple of friends. We launched off of Teage parkway at 8am and ran up to 12 mile. We fished there throwing everything we had. Still no luck. About 1230 we ran down to jimmy davis bridge and fished around the sand bars. We managed 2 little ones. We called it quits at 430pm. Athough fun, not a great day.

Went out of Clark's a couple of days ago.  New to area from Natchitoches, so still learning.  Caught two in Caspiana.  One dink near first stand of bamboo on a stump in about 8 feet of water.  Caught nice 3.6 lb fish further back in the lake near the big bend.  This one was in 11ft water in first stump line off bank.  Last fish came on main river near the port in 4 ft water in a scattered clump of cattails. That one was 2.4lbs.   All were caught on triple rattleback black/brown/amber 3/8 oz jig with castaic choice zoom super chunk trailer.  These were the only bites I had.  Crankbaited some rocks and threw jigworm on rocks as well with no success.  Look forward to next trip where I do believe I will have to dust off the old rattle trap, from what I am reading.

I do believe that you are supposed to be working there, DOC......
what's up doc, did ya whack em.

Hawgwild

Hi Jay...yep...better dust off the rattletraps...between myself and 2 other boaters...friends from work....I'd say probably 80% of the fish we caught this 3 day weekend  come on rattletraps....mostly chrome/blue.....I've also had some good luck on one of the fancier finished trap in silverr shinner in 1/2 oz..

Had some luck with a blue Lake Fork crawtube but that bite has been off last few days...

If you fish caspy again, come on around that point and just fish that bank on down for a bit...Seems most of the bass are holding real tight on the visible stumps and other underwater wood....they did seem to be holding a little closer to the bank today also..

Also when you come around that point there is another stand of bamboo across the channel from there ...usually some folks perch fishing there...just to the right of the bamboo there is some more wood that usually holds some good fish also..

I managed 11 fish today..7 were good fish with largest maybe 3 lbs. rest were small.....Caught 3 early on white spinner and the rest on the silver shinner 1/2 oz rattletrap...

I'll probably see you there again as I fish there often..

Fished the Red today from 0900-1530.  Tough day for me again only had three bites.  Got two to the boat and only one of those was a bass. Caught the bass on 1/4oz chrome/blue rattle trap, had one bass come off at the boat on a junebug zoom speed craw texas rigged with 3/16oz weight and caught a drum/carp on the speed craw.  Both the bass were on wood and the drum was on rip rap. No size to the bass just maybe keepers did not measure the one I got in the boat.

anyone hitting the river tomorrow? i was looking to see if anyone needed a tag along...

Went out today (Friday) out of Clark's.  Went straight to Caspiana and made first cast around 11am.  Started at first bamboo point and basically stayed on that bank all the way to the back.  Water temp was 55 degrees and lightly stained.  By the time I got to the little boat dock and the Caspiana sign had caught 8.  6 keepers with biggest weighing 3.6lbs.  All were caught on(thank you RattlinScottie)   1/4 oz Bleeding Shad Rattle Trap (chrome blue back with red hooks and red splashes).  Rest of keepers were all around 2lbs.  When I got to the boat dock the sun was  out a bit and bite slowed.  Started pitching a Rite Bite 4inch black neon tube and caught two more keepers.  One around 2lbs and one 3lbs on the button.  Grand total of 10 fish , 8 keepers.  I left at that point and went and explored a few other areas with no luck.  By far my best outing on the Red since moving here.  Conditions were very conducive (overcast , moderately windy bank)for the rattle trap.  I would like to publicly apologize to Bill Lewis for all the times I spurned his wonderful little bait.  Never been much on lipless cranks, but they were pounding it today.

Way to go Jay...Sounds like you had a good time and caught pretty good, quality fish..

Everyone has their goto bait and the traps are mine....I don't use a lot of colors either...mostly chrome/blue, crawfish colors, and a couple of shad colors......Fish are usually on one of them....

A 1/4 natural crawfish and red crawfish will start producing in another month or so when the crawfish come out and the fish start to spawn..

Glad you had a good time and I'll be there tomorrow.. :)

b1jermey,   What club are you in?  Im supposed to fish a club tourny with my unlce this sunday out there looks like we will be getting wet! Any of you have any ideas on what to throw at them in cold rainy condtions.  I was thinking a jig but looking for some ideas any info will help!

Thanks Todd

b1jeremy

ty i was just playing though...public waterway right lol...anyhow ill let you know tomorrow...Jeremy

Hawgwild

TB44...I'm also having some luck with a tube...Mostly a blue color Lake Fork crawtube...but they hit a black neon OK too..

Also did well with a white or clear/silver spinner...I like one with 2 colorado blades and work it as slow as possible...bumping off of stumps helps a bunch for strikes also..

It was raining last monday when I was out....lite sprinkle... and they were still hitting the rattletraps pretty well....mostly chrome/blue and silver shinner colors...I've used 1/4 and 1/2 oz traps and both sizes seemed to produce about the same...I tend to use the 1/2 oz size more to get a little deeper..

I did catch a couple on a black/blue lizard last weekend, but they were small..
