To quit or not

I am at a crossroads in my fishing life.
I like fishing with the club but the club I belong to is 70 miles from my home. This puts most of the tourneys 50 - 120 miles away from home. These are low money tourneys but being competitive is hard as prefishing would cost more than I could win.
I find myself wanting to fish somewhere else that has bigger fish for the IBASS competition. I also would like to spend more time with the grandkids.
I would like to fish a few of the club tourneys but then would find a reason to keep competing for the AOY.

I hope IBASS can be enough to keep me competitive.

I remember when I made that choice back in the late 80's.  Of course it wasn't that hard as Uncle Sam helped me out a lot.  I went from being stationed in Louisiana to Alaska.  Sold my boat and bunch of stuff.  Got to Alaska bought another boat and started fishing for Trout and Pike instead of bass.  There weren't any tournaments to fish it was all relaxing fun with my son trips.

That is a hard choice sometimes though.  You could take a break and use the tournament funds and fish other areas and maybe take those grandkids on a fun trip.

Good luck with the choice.

Of course only you know when to make a change.  I'll just bet if you decide to stay close to home and happen to hit a more local event every once in a while you may find it to be much more fun.  I would not even be surprised if you even find a club or two nearby that might be attractive after you take a bit of a hiatus from your current tourney schedule.  The good news is you will still be fishing and competing with I Bass and that will scratch your itch for a while.  Go for it Zippyduck

I feel your pain Zippy.

My best advice is to make a change when it quits being fun.

It kind of hurts giving it up, sometimes that itch gets strong. I hope to compete in IBass next year.

Don't look at it as quitting. Look at it as trying something new.

Since tournament fishing is not an option for me, FLBR is what feeds my competitive drive.
If you have the option to fish a few club events a year, I would say stay with your club. IBASS may be help feed the drive, but I don't think it will keep your competitive drive fed. I would re-visit your plans towards the end of the winter. Your recuperating mentally from 2 tournament seasons (IBASS and Club) and cabin fever has even set in yet. I bet your mindset will be different by the Spring.

Maybe you could find a club closer to home. I know it sux losing people you have become friends with. I've been there/done that.

My son enlightened me to a test to determine how you really feel about something. Base your decision on a coin flip. If you like the results you made the right decision. If you're not happy with the way the coin flip turned out then that tells you that you really want the other thing more.  :-*

No team clubs locally.

Now the coin flip thing is a great idea. Because I have flipped a coin many times till I got what I wanted.

Your son is a wise man.  :)
