Annual youth day at the Buxton Hollis Rod and Gun today. My bass club are the "rods" so we desended on the massive 27 acre pond. 9 boats collectively well over 2000 hp lol Shot gun start at 9 am. Overcast water temperature 72° air 70 warming to 80. Not a breath of wind. There were a few on beds but mostly over with the spawn. Lots of pollen on the water made sight fishing tough. 33 kids were divided into 3 groups. Archery, 22 cal target practice with gun safety and fishing. We all took off  with the first group on the TM or idle speed and covered the shoreline. My fist rider was proficient with a spinning rod so I had him throw a green pumpkin General wacky rigged on a falcon lures k wacky hook. Fish were a foot or 2 from the bank and the weedless setup was perfect. Even when he "squirrel" fished in the trees now and then. Between us all we covered ever inch of the bank. One of our guys, Justin, was throwning a frog and having his anglers throw with a senko at blow ups. They did good. I will remember for next year. The general held up well and lasted the day, my kids all caught several and I think that was true of most all even though extremely pressured and post spawn. Wish we had this kind of thing when I was a kid.....

Deer Pond is a neat little puddle that you can do the entire shoreline in a couple of hours. Perfect for a canoe or kayak fisherman. Lots of small fish with occasional giants. Managed for trout, spring fed with 60'  max depth. 50 fish (bass) laps possible.

Very cool day :toot: Love it when we get to spend on the water time with kids that might not otherwise get too...
