Yamaha 175, fished caddo last sunday everything perfect. Plugged in onboard MK charger tuesday cranking battery still not charged. Wiring felt hot cleaned connectors checked water level, tried charging wires hot again. checked voltage only 10 volts, think a cell shorted out on way home on road. Battery is several years old, so looking for a replacement. Space will not fit anything larger than a 27 size, thats what is in the spot now. Any suggestions on a replacement.

I'm a huge fan of Duracell (made by Deka), if you have a Sam's club nearby. If not, maybe your local battery shop sells Deka, it's a top shelf battery with an awesome reputation. -J

I would check the charger and if that's not the problem check for a short in the wiring just to be on the safe side. I installed a main shutoff because of a short in the ignition switch took out my charger, battery and outside electrical outlet. I use top of the line Interstate but any of the big names will give you good service, you can also look at Lithium.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

I've tried all kinds of batteries from Blue Tops to Walmart specials. The Duracell has been as good or better than every single one I've used. Sam's generally has them at a very reasonable price.

If one were to consider a lithium battery as their cranking battery, I would definitely check with the outboards manufacturer FIRST.
