I've been wanting a different jerkbait rod for a while now and when I saw the Kaden 610-4CB show up online, it immediately caught my eye. I now have a local store to me that's carrying some Dobyns Rods and I have gone in twice in the past week and felt up the 610-4CB. I'm really liking the feel and balance of this rod.

Does anyone own this rod here and have used it for jerkbaits (and probably smaller crankbaits as well)? I'm curious how it handles these baits. I don't like a jerkbait rod that's too soft like most traditional crankbait rods are. I like something a little faster, but not as fast as what I want my Texas rig rods to be. The rod feels pretty ideal in the store, but I'd prefer someone with on the water experience if possible.

Thanks guys!

I have the 610-4.  It has all the attributes I look for in a jerkbait rodent.  Even though a CB action, it's still produces the slightly faster tip and really get a bait to react. I've thrown several baits. Provoke, Rerange, Vision 110 and SK300 with it.  Loads nicely and works the bait effectively. Put a Daiwa Elite 100 on it and you have a superb set up.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks DD!

Would you say it would still handle a smaller bait like a Pointer 78 as well?

Pointer 78 comes in at 1/2 ounce so yes, no problem.

*Any other treble bait uses you foresee for the Kaden 610-4 such as top water , etc. ? That Kaden length / action could fill a few possible holes in the rod line up (besides a true jerk bait rod) . Also , I believe all other Dobyns series only offer a 705CB action for treble hook lures ?

Sir, not true regarding only the "705CB action for treble hook lures".

The 704cb and 684cb Champs are my two favorite treble hook rods (cranks, jerkbaits, top water) for smallmouth of all time. I took ownership of another two this week. Both paired with Steez CT SV .

DD , The 78 Pointer is 3/8.

Happy shopping.

The Kaden 610-4CB is made for jerkbaits, small to med CB's, and lots of topwater baits. It's a great rod and sales back this up. I do worry a bit when you say you like something faster than traditional CB rod. I'll just throw a ballpark guess here. I think 80% of guys want traditional Mod-Fast CB action for jerkbaits and that leaves about 20% wanting something faster. In my opinion the faster rod will lose more fish but a guy needs to buy what suits his style. If you want a faster rod here I'd look at 2 power casting for sure. The faster action will load more and quicker so you need a littler power rod to help here with treble hooks. I hope this makes sense!!!

*The 610-4 should fill a useful spot in the Dobyns rod line up . Curious how the rod performs with braid , mono and FC main lines ?

*Would you have any reservations about throwing a flat sided crank bait or 1.5 square bill on the 610-4 ?

Not at all.  Let me qualify some I wrote earlier.  When I mentioned a faster tip that really makes a jerk bait work I should have put that in context.  My jerk bait rod for the last nine years or so has been a Champion 704CB.  The Kaden is my first experience with a sub seven footer.  The action is still That CB action Gary referred to. The 610-4 being even two inches shorter seems quicker to respond. I really like it and will use it for poppers when it warms up.

A sub 7' jerkbait / twitching rod (like the 610-4) can be helpful to prevent the rod tip from hitting the water or boat when working the lure along with a tad quicker response when working the lure . A shorter rod also doesn't move the bait as far thus keeping the lure in the strike zone longer . The 610-4 fills a nice niche and you know the quality , feel , balance , etc. will be there .

This is a rod that is on my list to buy.  I currently use a DC684cb and love it.
