No Excuses

Made a quick trip after work. I've had the fever since going to Caney last week and watching the pros catch all them big girls there and at Bussey Brake! Pulled into a spot and threw a lipless crankbait around a little. That didn't pan out so I grabbed the O'l HackAttack jig with a twin tail trailer of some kind, and started poking around little drop offs on a creek channel. I was seeing a lot of fish on my 2D sonar, but nothing was hungry. I turned around and fired a long cast out towards the open water where the channel splits. Picked it up and shook it a couple times and she like to have took my 7-10 TFO away from me! When I finally got her in the boat, the scale said 8lb 12 3/4oz, but she was 24 3/4" long!! My wife's 10lber was only 23.25" We measured several in the 8 and 9 lb range last year that were 23 and less. This was by a good bit the longest fish I'd ever handled. She was a dump truck. I had to turn her just right to go into the well,
(So she could rest while I dug out my fin clip kit, she was released unharmed ). I'll check my scales against my postage scales at work tomorrow. But, regardless of what she weighs, it was fun!!! I'd like to see her full of eggs in another month and see what she weighs then!!!

Everybody fishing all around me and here I am just working 70 hours a week. And three of my sites are on Caney. Dammit.
I'm the water guy for Hooks Marina. If you go there often we probably pass each other on the road.

she ought to be egged up already... but WOW!  what a fish...

just amazing how these fish can all be so different.  lengths, weights...  guess they're like people that way lo
next time some one asks, I'll just describe myself as 'a kicker'?
time of year is right.  that's for sure.

I've only been there once. My in laws live about 20 min from there back off Thomas rd in WM. Looking forward to learning that place.

That's a beauty!  Congrats on the catch.  Still 22" of ice on my home lake so it will be a few months before we can chase anything like that up here.

I got around to checking my scales. I had a chunk of steel in the shop that weighed  exactly 8.5lbs on my postage scales at work. My Electro Samson weighed it 2.5oz lighter. So I'm calling her 8-15 1/4. Sure thought she was bigger. Went Friday and caught 5 that wouldn't add up to her altogether!!  ~roflmao
