No Excuses

Made a couple quick trips this weekend. Got the annual Camden FD, where I am retired from, Tournament this coming Saturday. The big rain really muddied up a lot of my spots that I normally fish. Friday was a couple hr trip with zero catches. I had a funeral of a classmate Saturday, and afterwards my wife and I made a round on the upper lake. It has a lot of pads and grass. I missed a BUNCH of fish. They were swatting, but not biting good. Did boat 5 or 6 but they were all small. Went to the lower after church yesterday. Saw a bunch of nice fish, 5-7 lbs in one pocket. Pitched at a few just to check their mood. Checked a few other places and then headed to the trees. Saw a nice one on a cypress tree with her tail out of the water. Decided I'd try her. Pitched my jerk worm in there and she nipped at it a few times. Pitched a white Banditio Bug, with the same result. I couldn't see her real well, as we were in the shade. I had almost convinced myself it was a grinnel or something. It just didn't look right. I finally pitched a Zman Junebug trick worm on a 3/0 EWG, with a 1/4 oz pegged tungsten weight. She didn't like that worm waving around. Took a lil  bit but she finally attacked it. Turns out it was a Bass and she weighed 5-9. Caught another 3lber the same way about 20' away and left them alone. My partner for this coming weekend, is a buddy that we have only shared a boat once. We always fish against each other. He caught a 7+ and several 4's and 5's this weekend. Things are looking good!!
