My startup kit just came in. It has most of what I need, but I need advice on things like which thread and epoxies I ought to buy. FD got me set up on blank selection (thanks again, btw).

I'm working on a video with all of the basic consumables but here are the basics.

Epoxy Paste and Glue

I use 3 different ones.  For small part glue up I use the ProGlu 5 minute liquid.  For items that are going to take a long time to get positioned or if I'm working with a lot of parts, then I use the Pro Paste regular set.   For most situations where I'm gluing up handle assemblies or reel seats, I prefer the U-40 10 min paste.  The "Pro" stuff I get from mudhole and the U-40 comes from voodoo.

Thread finish

Most are fine but they all have different set times and viscosities.  I have tried most and always come back to Diamond II.  It's a medium build finish and is absolutely consistent from bottle to bottle.  Always buy the kit with the bottle plugs and syringes.  The key to thread finish is proper storage and temps at mixing time.  Diamond II is only available at voodoo.

Wrapping Thread

Most of the time I use ProWrap color fast thread.  The colors are consistent (before finish vs after finish), easy to work with and not expensive.  If I'm using metallic then it's usually Fuji.  I just seem to have less issues with it over the ProWrap.

Supplies

mixing cups, brushes, popsicle sticks and such mostly come from amazon or a local craft store.

Check out the description in my videos.  I have links to much of the above.

Thanks FD! I've got plenty of mixing cups, etc from making knives, but I'm going to order the other stuff. The kit I got came with some ProWrap thread, but I'm not sure if it's the colorfast stuff or the kind that requires color preserver. It's cheap enough I'll just order some more to be sure I've got the right thing.

Sometimes non CP thread can give you a cool effect.

Do a test wrap on the blank and wet it with clean water or alcohol.  Depending on the thread and blank color you can get translucent wraps that look awesome.
