Ring Free Products?

I have a 200 Johnson, I blew it up about 2 years ago and had a new power head installed. Now since then I have been deployed and have not used the boat but what I am guessing maybe 100 hours.

I know bad boy, but I have not ran any type of ring free products in my fuel. Which leads me to my questions. First, should I use some sort of shock treatment or fogger to get the motor clean again? And second, what product should I be running on a regular basis? Third, what is a regular basis, should I run something in every tank of gas or maybe every ten hours?

I am clueless but want to make sure I am doing everything I can to preserve the life of my motor. Any help would be appreciated.

Good questions here dude. Now this is what I like to see guys do and is JMHO... I would get me several cans of engine tuner cleaner and shoot this through the front of the carbs after the motor comes to temp, let soak for about an hour. Then start her up and fast idle say like 1200 RPM's for 5 minutes or so then hose her again and let soak over night.

Once you get the carbon out of her start using Ring free or Carbon Guard in every gallon of fuel you use. No shock treatment for them. I see too much problem from the shock treatment or at least the possiblity of problems from the shock treatment.

Decarbon her every 75 hours or so, long as you run the ring free or simular product I would use nothing but the best oil in her as well. The better oil doesn't leave all the ash behind once the fuel is burned off. Best oil for the price for the carbed motors would be the XD-50 that Bombardier has now...They have a better oil but the price of this makes it to pricey in anything but a E-tec or maybe a Ficht if money is not hard to come by...Hope this helps dude...

Helps a bunch. When you say "decarbon her" are you talking about spraying the engine tuner cleaner or will the Decarbon stuff you buy at the boat dealer work?

My Johnson has a fitting on the front of the motor (Right side if you are sitting on the deck of the boat looking at it). I have been told that this is a connection for the decarb you buy at the dealers. Do you recommend using this stuff?

Also what brand of Carbon Guard or Ring Free would you suggest?

Thanks for the tip on the oil also, my Johnson burns it like mad and I have been using Tech 2000, it says it complies with the TCW 3 requirements. I take it these requirements are the bare minimum and there are obviouly better products out there, but the way I go threw oil cost is important to me.

The only oil to use and money considered is the XD-50, this would be my choice anyway. You choose something else I would keep my time frame on the decarboning to 50 hours or less. Decarboing is with the engine tuner cleaner that BRP sales for the J&E products. Carbon Guard as well. They are what I use, but Ring free is fine too, I just would not do the shock treatment to my motor unless its been kept clean and I no for fact to have very little carbon in her, then I might do a shock treatment.

Now far as the fitting on the side of the motor, forget that. You will not get enough chemical through this fitting to soak the cylinders like I like them to soak anyway. Neat idea and, just not enough volume through this for me anyway...

Thanks Rowdy, I am going to get with it with my motor this weekend probably. Thanks again.
