Hey folks,

This motor has went from stock to very un-stock over the past couple of years.  I bought her in September of 2000 at a dealer in SC near Lake Murray.  I blew up a '95 200 Venom on the first day of practice of a the ABA Nationals tournament on a Sunday and bought this motor the next day for a jewel of a price.........$8400.00

This motor is proof that the internet is very powerful and that you can learn and do just about anything if you find the right folks to talk to and happen to be in the vecinity that they are.  The whole "hop-up" of the motor started via internet boards such as this one.  I ran across a board that was small but full of info for what it was.  There I met Skeet, Rowdy, Rich Boger, Vinnie and several other folks that were into go fast boatin and fishin too....

When I got the motor it went on a '94 400TE Javelin.  Best "fishing" platform I've ever seen and she was pretty dang fast too for a mass produced go fishin boat.

I kinda rushed into things with the mods and sent the lower unit to Bob's Machine Shop for low water pic-ups.  In hindsight this probabl slowed that boat down by a couple miles per hour because it would never run with the motor any higher than about 1 1/2" below the pad.  Lesson learned.

So, if you have a Triton, Stratos, Javelin or any other rig that probably won't run with the motor high.........then don't get the low water pickups, regardless of motor.

At this time the motor was bone stock except LW/pickups and that rig would run right at 78-79gps with a thinned out 27 Renegade by myself and 75 with partner.  A stock 26 Raker would get close at times but never could out-do the worked renegade.

In Early 2001 I smoked #1 piston due to some wood being in the pop off valve of the thermostat on the 1,3,5 bank of cylinders.  This is when the power head became very "un-stock" .  A friend that I met on the internet (Skeet) lived about an hour away.  I took the boat to his place and he was generous enough to rebuild the motor.  While he was at it he put over 30 hrs of grinding into the block.  He cleaned up all glue lines, widened the rod slots and plugged the idle releif holes.  We also had the cooling modification done to the block from a shop in TN.  This basically turned the motor to a high volume/low pressure cooling system for better cooling around all cylinders.

After all this was done, we broke her in well and slapped her back on the Javelin.  At this point is when the speed bug had totally bitten me....LOL    The Javelin picked up some speed and now would run in the low 80's  by myself and upper 70's with a partner.

Skeet had access to a Land and Sea dyno from time to time and there were several guys from around the area that would come up and we'd have a Dyno Party (as Skeet would call it)  My HO at that point put out 266hp average at 5900 revs on the dyno after 3 pulls.

I felt pretty good about this as a dude with a stock HO would see around 245 average.   Now Skeet had all the goodies with MAD EFI and such and could pull an average 312HP with his 3.0litre J'Rude.

At this point is when I realized my hull would not do any more no matter how much HP I threw at it.  A search for a new hull began.

I did my research and narrowed it down to two boats.  Stroker and Bullet.  I really wanted a Stroker in the beginning actually.  I'd found a used one with an OMC motor that I really liked except it was in AR and I was in GA.  I talked with this guy several times and finally decided that I'd just order a new Stroker.  I found a dealer in AL and went through the gammet of pricing and ordering and when it was all said and done the boat and trailer by itself was going to be in the $20,000 dollar range.

Just before the order was placed I was in KY on leave deer hunting and drove down to a dealer that sold Bullets and he also had a 97 model Stroker there.  Putting the two side be side I instantly went with the Bullet.  In December of 2001 I bought my red and black 20XD from the dealer in KY for $16,000.  Now this is just the basic boat. No trolling motor, guages, fish finders, controls ect........

I mounted my own trolling motor and fish finder.  Skeet helped with rigging the guages, jackplate, motor, and everthing else.

When it was all said and done I got to finally take her out for the first time the first weekend in Jan 03.  Awsome to say the least.  the next thing I know I was deployed on Jan 12 03 to start the war in Iraq.

I got back in country in May of 03 and got back on the water.  This is when I started to learn to drive the boat and realized quickly that the props I had in the past were way too small.  I got a modified 29 SRX and this wheel was pretty much what was called for here.  I was running 87 by myself and 83 with a partner at that point.  I went to the Bullet Ralley in June of 03 and tried out a Hydromotive prop.  I ran the T-3X 3 blade in 31.5 pitch (only one they had to fit OMC) and ran a pass of 88 with that wheel.  Later after talking with those guys I purchased a 28 quad 4-OT and started running it.  This is a good all around prop.

Later in 03 I decided to up the ante and sent some heads down to Monty Racing in Fl.  He put a nice cut on the heads and increased compression to 145lbs per cylinder.  Know it's a must to burn $2+ per gallon gas.  (it's a speed bug thing.....LOL) You'll do it too once it bites....LOL

After this my hp numbers were increased by approximately 20HP and props were now not working anymore as I'd over rev everything except the SRX even with partners.

This is when Rich Boger was called upon.  I'd heard his name, seen him on the internet and talked with him from time to time about the Javelin.  It was time to take the leap which changed my view on props for ever. I bought a 32 Mazco RE-4 (per his advise) and ran this on the Bullet in stock form.  sent him the numbers and the prop and what came back was a spectacle to be seen to say the least.  Unfortunately the Bogerized Mazco was in AR getting worked while I was at the anual DOD tournament at Dale Hollow in Ky.  This is when I broke my gear case for the 3rd time.  The stock OMC case would not hold together under surfacing conditions at all with all the HP that was being thrown at it.  I could almost count the hours on the new case until the bearing carier would spin.  Now this is not to say that the OMC cases are junk.....Their not.  They just don't like 285HP and being surfaced at 6600 revs.

I got this prop back and was in awe just looking at it.  Now, I couldn't run this prop because my lower was toast.  I made several calles and emails to friends in the know (Rowdy and Rich + others) and decided to go with a Wayne Tayler 16" mid that would allow me to run a Mercury Sportmaster gear case on my OMC.

In Mar of 04 I took the boat to AL to Waynes shop and he started his work.

What came out was unbeleivable to say the least.  He does great work and has even better products.  I'm now running a short shafted OMC with a Merc Sportmaster gearcase with 1.62 gears and he also dry stacked the exhaust while it was there.

How was your hole shot with the 31 and the 28 and the 32 Mazco? I was going to get a bullet myself , but the storage is what I did not particularly like , especially the center compartment. Man, a bullet is fast though !!!!

225HO

Mike,

The hole shot was not the problem with the stock OMC case.  It would launch the 28 Hydromotive with me and a partner.  It would did very well with the 31.5 3 blade Hydromotive and the Mazco 32 was surprisingly good too.  Never did get to try the 32 Mazco with a partner, but with full gas and my gear (which is not shaby, I'll try to post a pic of my typical gear) was good.

Now there's more to the story so don't go too far...LOL

I do run the Mazco that Rich cut and it's crazy fast.  needs a little de-tuning I think, but If I unloaded the boat and took off the trolling motor then 100+ is there no problem.

Now, unloading and no trolling motor is not my style for sure.  So, it needs to go back and get some revs put into it for the extra speed with gear.

225HO

This is typical gear day in and day out in the Bullet.  Took this one afternoon after fishing a tourney and doing a go-through of the boat.  Now there's a bunch of "crap" that was here and there that is not included in the pic because I through it out....LOL

225HO

Here's the bullet pretty much in stock form with the Bob's Lower.

225HO

There's really alot more room than you'd think from a storage and fishing stand point.  The center compartment is HUGE....... That is really the place to keep rods.  goes all the way to the tip of the bow and very big.  I've threatened to get in there during a storm...LOL

225HO

Here's a shot of some of the grinding around the reed blocks/intake to smooth air flow.

225HO

This is a shot of the front half just behind the intake and reed blocks.  Notice the grinding that's been done here.

225HO

This is a cylinder shot that show's the idle relief hole that has been plugged with a set screw and locktight.  This will give the Carbed OMC/BRP guy about 1HP per cylinder (6 total) due to compresion increase.

225HO

This is a shot of the cooling mod done to the block.  Notice the red dots in between the cylinders.  These used to be water passages that were re-directed for better cooling of all cylinders.

225HO

This is a shot of the Monty Racing heads that were cut back in Feb.  145lbs of compression=Nasty Mota.......

225HO

Here's a shot of the rod slot grinding.  this helps air flow much better to the intake port.

225HO

This is after the Wayne Taylor mid was put on with the Sportmaster case.

225HO

Here's another view.  Notice how the mota is mounted on the lowest hole on the mount and the jackplate is all the way down.  At this level Center of Gravity is much lower than stock and I'm right at even with the pad........Wicked!!!!!

225HO

Here's an opposite side veiw.  Not your normal OMC/BMCA mota huh?   LOL.....

225HO

I would show you folks a shot with a prop on it, but that is what we would call ........Top Secret...LOL

Rich's wheel's are fast!!!!! period

got to get one for yourself and see!!!!

225HO

A shot of her on the hose.   She's breathing air and spitting water in about 10 different directions.  I hate to brag, but she is a nasty girl.  Notice the water coming out of the sides.....This is Wayne Taylor Dry Stack for OMC/BRP products.  Awesome.......

Mike Cork

That is one awesome machine there 225HO. I love the colors and that foot just looks mean. Thanks for the detail in how you got here and the excellent photos of the block and head work  ~c~

You said that once you got them side by side you wanted the bullet. What made up your mind at that point?
