before you paint a plastic crankbait do you prime it? IF so where do you buy the promer paint?

I've just been sanding mine down and spraying on a white base coat. Not sure what everyone else does but it seems to be working fine for me.

ok so you just use  a plain white pain to start?

Ranger, yes, thats what I do. I dont make new ones, I just refinish old ones I already have. I sand them down and start with a plain white base coat and go from there.

NWA, unless the lure has chipped paint, dont waste  your time with the sanding.....just prime and go.....i have found that out doing a big order in quicktime......

There is a post here we did on where to get supplies. It is a thread pinned at the begining of this forum.  Jan's is good so is Stamina .. I just got started painting. Use a white acrylic paint (craft paint like apple barrel) to prime. You can buy cheap airbrushes but you might get discouraged if you want detail lines on your lures.  I have enjoyed painting some lures and trying to get the right consistency for my paint to flow through the finer needles. I have got a lot of info from the tackle underground site.  Read up on all the "how to's" before you purchase the equipment.

Luremaking.com's crank baits, jerk baits, and pop'r are decent quality.  I have caught fish on all of them, even though my paint jobs aren't that special.  The crank baits and jerk baits run fairly true.  Their eye on the lip is kinda week, so I have gone to a stronger one from Janns.  A little work with the drimmel tool on the pop'r and it does nicely.  It's pretty cool when you catch some and someone wants to know what you caught them on and you can tell them on a crank bait that you made.
