I have always wondered this. In local/state tourneys I always at least offer my boater money. It is up to him if he accepts it. But I always wondered if you gave it to a pro, and if so what would be a safe amount since most of them make long runs and use allot of gas.

javelin225ho

i would have to offer, although i know someone else is probablly paying for it...

Nickk

No Way!  They should have a Hugo Chavez sponsorship!

lo

I said I'd offer, and you should expect to have that offer accepted I would think(with the price of gas these days)

I voted no. I dont think I should pay for all the gas. Now this would be on the pro level. In the smaller state tourneys I would offer to pay half.

teamsimper

I'd definetly offer. Wouldn't want to be known as a tight :ass. Just because these guys have sponsors still doesn't take away the fact that they spend a ton of $s just like us.

I voted no also for those same reasons. I'm always more than happy to pay for gas locally but a top pro no way. They aren't paying for it i'm sure since its written off at end of the year.

make an offer of $20-30 some will take it and some wont. 2 of the 3 i fished with in the flw series tournament didnt take it. doug

I have never fished in somebody elses boat before, but I would always offer to pay "half" of the cost

I would offer to pay half of the cost...... Good sportmanship has nothing to do with how he got his gas paid for or rather he writes it off or not...does not relinquish you from at least offering to pay for half of the gas IMO .........

In local tournaments I offer $30. I'd still give that amount to a pro in a bigger circuit and let them decide to take it or not. They spend alot prefishing to get us non-boaters fish and word gets around if you stiff someone. They won't think twice about giving you any water to fish. At least offer something its makes evrybody's day a little easier.

Nickk

oh, I misread that....All of the gas?  no way would I offer to cover all of it, a split is fair IMO.

Treat them in the same manner you'd like to be treated.

I always give cash to my partner however I choose not to accept cash when we're in my boat. If it's a team event decide before you start. I've been with one guy who fished for two days, filled the boat, and then wanted half of the cost for two days when I fished only one. Some people will try to take advantage but most are thankful for the offer/cash and will respect and remember your consideration.

I'd offer to pay half and hope they don't take a broke boys money, but gladly smile if they do!

pro or not, you need to at least offer... alot of these guys don't have the major sponsorship money like some others do

Yep....... They're doin you a favor.  Give back any way you can!

I fished in the pro division of anglers choice, I personally would not take any money, but I always appreciated my backseater offering. To me that showed they were serious about the tournement and I would go out of my way to leave them a few choice casting spots. Right now I am boatless and I may fish as a coangler this year and you can bet I will be offering some gas money. shawn

I will give $20.00- $40.00 depending on the water we cover. If I meet my boater in the morning and we get gas and after the tournament we fill up again, I split the difference. It doesn't happen like that very often though. My average is about $30.00.

Fishook

I voted no  due to Not having any input on where you fish and getting back boated.

Co-anglers should offer at least what you think would be half. I have heard of some co-anglers giving a little more if the boater put them on good fish (I guess kind of like "tip") or really helped them out in some way. I think it is more the gesture than anything.  Some will accept what you offer, some won't accept anything because its not a big deal to them.  If you offer too much, the boater may give back some because they didn't go far that day.  Just my 2 cents! ;)

I have always offered. Sometimes it is accepted ( with a big smile and Thank You ). sometimes it is not. It is just the cost of fishing.  It should be part of your fishing budget, if not, then don't go to the Tx.

IF it's a partnership/equal opportunity deal, YES.  If I can't toss forward of the half-way line and have to work hard just to find angles and keep baits in strike zones...basically, I'm just an observer...then no...

I'll pay half the gas if I'm given at least equal opportunity to fish 'my water' or unused water.  On the other hand, if I did pay half and the angler 'won' would that entitle me to a share of the winnings?
