I have always had externally ajusted casting brakes but wound up with this reel and was wondering if someone could help on this.  :)

Come on guys  I know some one can help me out on this.  :)

BassBUFF

A good way to start is setting the cast control on the right side based on the lure weight you're throwing. You want the bait to drop to the water and not keep running when the bait hits it (no line spooling loose). From there start on the brakes on the left side set at 8 or 10. Start casting until you get used to it. Then you can start backing off the break as you get your thumb "trained"! Good luck!

Htank for the info, but I have been throwing baitcasters for about 20 yrs. I have always bought with external cast control, but this proqualifier has the internal ajustments and I dont want to start yanking magnets out without knowin the correct way to do it, and not tear it up.  ;D

BassBUFF

Whoops, sorry about that.  '-{

Is this the new one that has the centrifugal and magnetic setting?

-Shawn-

no it is the older one without the external ajustment.   it is a pq 1000h se.   it has the push in and turn to unlock sideplate,

When you make those adjustments on the pins, pull them or push them in as they are facing another. Do not do them side by side.... try to at a time work with that and check out the speed of the spool, if too fast put some more breaks on in the same fashion..... hopes this helps.

So I can pull the pins out of the reel without  hurting anything?

Nickk

Is it like a Shimano and look like this?
If so the little plastic things on the pins are the brakes.  They move on the metal pins, to engage the brake you move it away from the center and it clicks into position, that makes them float in the outer portion of the pin and the end will rub on the brake drum(just like old time car drum brakes).  I recommend clicking them all toward the center and moving them out in balanced pairs, I typically run 2 brakes on(out) on my old model Curado.

Yep, thats it. thanks fo the help, I was about to yank pins and all out.  ;D

Nickk

Glad to help man!

you can see in the pic they have 4 brakes engaged, it's pretty cool design actually.  Supertuning article(like on this site) call for polishing the braking surface for more linear braking(more like magnetic), Cork's does that!

-Shawn-

Yep this reel and a few others are being shipped to Cork today!  ;D
