All,

have a major crack (4" long, 4 inch wide) in the top of my 2006 merc optimax cowl (yeah, I caused it  ^-^)....

Is this repairable, and if so, how?

Thanks, BAM

Not sure how best to go about it, but I believe it's fiberglass and as such you should be able to take it to a body shop and have them fix you up.  Trouble might be matching the paint but a good shop should be able to do that for you.

Fix it from inside with fiberglass cloth and resin. The crack may still be visiable but won't spread

You can buy the Merc Phantom Black paint at any merc dealer.  They should be able to get that easily for you... Depending on where it is and if you want the crack to not show up... repaint it.  It will look a lot better repainted.. I just did mine, had some huge scratches on the top of mine because of a incident with going under a low bridge :)  Didn't pay attention to the motor height.  The idea with the fiberglass cloth and resin is the best way to stop it from cracking more.
