I need a good flipping stick asap and im unsure what to try out. What are you guys flipping with?

Beagle

My son gave me my birthday prsent a couple of days ago. A Shimano Cumara 7'2 MH. It has the split grip. I got to use it last night for the first time. It's unbeleavable how light this rod is and how sensitive. I will be using it from now on. BTW- If I ever break it all I have to do is go to BPS and get a new one.  ~c~

After years of trial and error I found the 7'6'' one piece American Rodsmith's Flipping stick is the best one for the money.  Light weight, well built, and very sensitive.   I have been very pleased with it,

I have to add another really good one I own is the St. Croix 8' Flipping stick.  It is a bit heavier then the American Rodsmiths, but I could move a tank with it.

OK, this might sound bad, but I have used it alot, and haven't flipped in a while.

7.6 foot Whuppin stick, in heavy. Its a pool que, but man it can haul the boat back to the ramp if you need it to.

Ive been using an Acadia MH rod. I got it in the buy one get one free deal. Its the upper end model..and still not expensive. Its a broomstick, but i like the fact that I can also use it for a Carolina rig rod too.

For the price, its hard to argue with Acadia. JMHO.

Admitedly not the most optimal set up, but I am currently using the following and doing great thus far...

Shakespeare Ugly Stick CAL 1101 6'6" MH rod
Shimano Coriols 100E spooled with 40lbs test Braid Spider Wire.

A bit of a budget set up but since I fish from a Kayak, I have learned that while good equipment is a real boon to success, using big stupid dollar rods and reels is outta the question unless you got scuba gear...your going to loose something or break something.  Why fight the inevitable?  Other issues I have to take into consideration is that I cant use excessively long handles from a Kayak very well.  Additionally unlike you guys in battle wagons, I am sitting just mere inches off the water as opposed to 4 feet up off the water.

I flip mostly with a 7'6" falcon lowrider and love it. But if I'm flipping a lot I also use a 7'0" H acadia P series like Brad. And yes for the money I would go that direction. 2 for 1 can't beat it, and they are sweet rods.

If you are like me and are not an expert at this, then I'll give you "one novice to another" info.

I use a Guide Series 7 ft Medium Heavy rod.  It was cheap (about $50), you can buy them just about anywhere,  has pretty fair feel, and can pull some decent fish out of heavy grass on the Potomax River, where I fish.   I also use it to throw frogs across the heavy grass and it works pretty well.

Just one guy's set up.

Good luck.
Not much bad happens when you're fishing.

Wow Andrew
As big as you are on Shimano, i'm suprised you even would ask. Any how I use a Shimano Cumara 7'2' M.H. nice and lite and can work it for hours on end.

Work is for people who don't know how to fish!
