The steering wheel on my boat is rigged so it is 90 degrees offset while the motor is straight.....not a big deal I know, but I figured it would be a pretty simple thing to straighten it out.  Hmmmm, apparently I am either very wrong or just missing something really simple and obvious.  The center cap pops out very easily, and the retaining nut with a washer appears to be the only thing holding the sterring wheel to the shaft.  But, after taking the nut and washer off, the steering wheel does not pull away from the shaft.  I tried tapping it free with a rubber mallet, hitting the bolt with a hammer (gently) to free the wheel and slide it off, but it ain't moving.  What am I missing here?  ~b~  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not sure on Boat steering wheels but I assume its like a car or tractor or anything else.  That dude is pressed on there.  So it will probably require a puller to remove it.  Its pressed on that tight to prevent it from moving you don't want it spinning when you are trying to steer.   Not sure on a boat if its possible the linkage or something can be adjusted to get the center strait instead of pulling the wheel.  I wonder that becuase it shouldn't be off that far unless something got changed around.

Yep, pressed on there. But even if you realign it, I haven't seen a steering wheel on a boat that will stay straight yet.

Thanks for the replies.  It doesn't affect the operation of the boat so it's not even worth the time and effort.......I'll just forget it and go fishing instead.  ~cf
