OK, I have been playing with goggle earth the past few days and have found pictures of a couple of local lakes with before and after pictures. Before they were flooded and after they were filled. I have not been able to figure out a way to take the before picture and lay it over the after picture.

So here's my question, Is this possible? If so, How?

Also, How do you get the resolution high enough to actually make out what you are looking at?

Many thanks

I don't mean to steal your post, but I have a question for you.  How do you change the date of the picture you are looking at?

I found it by accident. In my case, It's a blessing and a course to be ignorant.
Move your pointer to the top left of the picture you have on screen. A dateline will appear. Move the bar to the right. My pictures go from 2005 something to 2009. I still have not found out how to get present time pics.

Hope this helps.

Nate, at the top of the Google Earth screen there are some icons. Click on the one that looks like a clock showing about 4 o clock and a time scale will appear.

Bassn1, I wish I could help you. I know Coldfront knows a thing or 2 about Google Earth, hopefully he will see this thread.

I haven't been able to figure out how often Google Earth updates...but keep in mind:  the images are not 'real time'...they are 'geocoded raster images' from selected satellite shots...and great tools...

but we don't get real time access to satellite imagery...that's 'CIA stuff'...   ~shhh

They actually update it more than they used to in the past. right now depending on what you are looking at is runs 6 to 11 months. If you look at the bottom of the screen of the imagery that you are zoomed in on you can actually see the name of the source satellite. Usually the Navy Geo Sat system. There is also a French imagery provider. You can buy Google Earth Pro, it's pricy, but the data is a little more current, and they provide some extra tools for you to use.

If you have a good photo editor like Photoshop save the images or do screen captures the you should be able to make one semi-transparent and overlay it. -Jim

I will give it a try. So far when I right click on the screen, nothing in the form of tasks come up.

I dont think there is any way to improve the quality of the pictures.  You will notice that the most current photos are much better, because the satelite use to take the pics is much newer, therefore better quality.
