Bought a curado 201dhsv from a buddy, there is no spring in the spool tension knob. Is there supposed to be? Please help, thanks in advance!

I have the same reel and I did not see a spring in underneath the cast control knob. I looked at a schematic to confirm this.

You could go to shimano's web page and download the schematic (not manual) for free as a pdf file to put you at ease.

From Outside to inside, according to the schematic:

Cast Control Cap
Cast Control Spacer
Spool Tension Spacer
Bearing Retainer
Ball Bearing
O-Ring

Yup, no spring that I can see. It would appear (as I am not an expert by any stretch) that tension might very well be achieved by other means.
ARX - IB's Daughter on BC Reels:
"Papi! I like this reel. It is so much easier to use than the other one (the spinning reel) and it is more fun to use too." Now all I can say to that is this;
"That's my little girl!"

The spring under the cap of many reels is not for spool tension. It simply holds the bearing in place. The bearing retainer system on this reel does that. The spring does aid in holding the spool tension setting by putting some pressure back on the cap, on reels that have it.

Spool tension is achieved by compressing the spool between the spool tension spacers on each end of the spool shaft.

Don't hesitate cast away your good to go  :-*
