I'd like to welcome and thank Okuma Fishing for continuing their support of Ultimate Bass. We have created this board for everyone to jump in and ask questions or tell us about their experiences with Okuma Rods and Reels.

If you have any questions about Okuma Products, Okuma Staff are watching the board and will help you out as quickly as they can.

If you haven't checked out their product line be sure to swing by their website and do so. They have some great stuff in all categories of fishing ~c~

I know several of you here on the forums use Okuma Products or are trying them out for the first time. Don't be shy, tell us what you think!!!

Again, Okuma, thank You for your continued support

I will Kick it off.............  Is the Serrano the closest (performance wise and Bearing count) to the old Cayenne?

It appears to be identical from the specs?  :-\

Thank you for the intro Mike!

Shawn, yes, Serrano is the closest to the Cayenne.  They were built on the same platform.  Serrano has a couple more bearings and is optimized for inshore saltwater use where recommendation on Cayenne was freshwater only.

On the low profiles, Cayenne, Serrano and Helios share one platform (body style), Krios, Citrix, Komodo, Cedros share another.

I just want to also thank Okuma for continuing to sponsor this site. I've become a big fan of Okuma fly reels. I own fly rods from a 3 wt all the way up to a 10 wt, and even a couple of 9 wt's, and have Sierra & Intregrity reels to fit all of them, with spare spools for most of them. For the fly fishing I do, which is primarily panfish, LM & SM bass & Striped Bass, I have yet to find better fly reels in the price range of either of these.

Thank you very much!  ~c~

I also use other tackle, so.......!
Which casting rod would you recommend for casting big wooden lures in the 2 to 4 oz range to Striped Bass? This would primarily be in the brackish waters around the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks!

How close is the Helios in Performance.  I can't talk myself into the Lime green paint on the Serrano, But I realy like the Performanceof the Cayeene.

Okuma Fishing Tackle

Performance of both Heilios and Komodo will be over and above.  Primary difference is the two higher end reels feature aluminum drive systems, gears and shafts, that will be stronger as well as lighter.  From a creature comforts angle, both Helios and Komodo use a carbon fiber handle arm with oversized EVA knobs in place of an aluminum handle with molded knobs.

Don't remember exact weight of Cayenne off hand, but I believe Helios is at least a full ounce lighter.

After the $30 rebate, Helios should run about $189.99.

Cool Thanks!!  I see a Helios in my future.  ~gf

I looked at the Helios at the show...Looks like I will be picking one up myself.  After last years trial with the Citrix combo (Still fishing it hard - still holding up as well as any!) I think it is safe to say I will be satisfied with the Helios!

We have a number of guys in the office here that make quite a habit of chasing stripers.  You'll see their mugs show up on our Facebook page pretty often.  Their recommendation is either the C3X-C-7111XH or Guide Select GS-C-7111XH.  Mike Bennett is one of the striper hounds.  You can reach him at:  mike.bennett@okumafishing.com if you have questions on the specifics of either rod.  He went to the XH option for the top end of your spread.

Hope that helps.

I agree Ron,  I had to engage 2 brakes, and on every other baitcaster I own except my daiwa pixies I run with zero brakes, the Helios is  amazing.

In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.
