I Hate Boat Ramps...

Ok, so I went down a little while ago to run a test on my motor HydroTec wants to me to (a WOT pass with the air silencer off). So I get to the ramp, out of the way undo my straps, get the boat ready, and just general stuff. Get ready to launch and see two guys there with some kids. They are fishin at the ramp. Not that I mind it, BUT. It is a one lane ramp with no dock. There is room on the left side of the ramp to beach two boats, and nothing but rocks on the right side. So these two goofs have plastic PVC pole holders lined up along the beaching area right at the waters edge. Lines are out all over the tiny little basin. I back in the water and ask the gentleman if he could move some lines and rods so I can beach. I got a $:-\$ and a

and moved some of his stuff for him.

Went to park the truck, came back and he had one line all the way across the mouth of the basin so I couldn't get out, or so he thought. Got some momentum up, then right as I got to his line killed the motor, trimmed it out of the water, and glided right across his bobber.

Then when I get back, these two are still there but a bit more co-operative. I park the boat and actually chat with them a while, then went to get the truck. As I was backing down, two young kids (maybe 20??) cut me off and parked their SeaRay on the ramp. I figured they would start loading it with stuff, right? NOOO! The guy in the boat starts gabbing on his cell phone! For 5 minutes I watched and let them know I wasn't very happy with what they did. So finally I point out the "Do Not Block Ramp by order of the County Commissioner" sign and inform them if they don't get out of the way, the sherrifs department would assist them.

I knew I shoulda used my secret, private ramp....

that is so typical if i am fishing at a boat ramp i will usual ask if i can help so one they get out faster and and 2 i don't have to worry about cut line

Trout Lake.....on the Gator chain. Right off of Bass Hwy.

Don't think I've been to that one. I've launched at the one that's in the canal where the floodgates to Gentry are.

You guys should have been up here this summer-fall and indiand summer......At Phillips Landing there are two ramps divided by a dock that floats for boaters and Fishermen/women/kids......Well I kid you not the whole area every week-end was loaded up with Migrant workers of Spanish decent SWIMMING---They litterally had to call the Dep't. of Natural Rescources Police every week-end.....................When I was a youngin we took weekly baths, but not at a public boat ramp

Can you guys remember the first time you ever entered a tournament with a 100+ boats going in.

I would have thought that General Schwartzcof joined the fishing federation to coordinate the boats going into the water. one right after another... trucks backing in and with a quick float off ... pullin' out, guys turning their running lights off so as not blind the next in line. Others helping the others who didn't have a non-boater that could back up

... Desert storm had nothing over this coordination of vehicles! Maybe the fisherman should take the lead and do our best to educate the non-fisherman on correct ramp manners... We need to protect this asset (ramps) especially when ramps are not being added anymore because of property values..
