Rick you keep this up and we are going to have to change your name to Ike Rick. lo lo
I forgot to share this yesterday. I snuck out to the park for a little while yesterday hoping to cull a couple of catches before the Halloween festivities got on their way. Unfortunately the fish had other plans but I found myself competing against an Osprey. For a while I was losing to an Osprey!! lo This bird plucked a decent sized bass out of the water and for whatever reason flew around with this fish for well over an hour. Talking about rubbing it in... lo I got the last laugh however, I managed to land 2 fish to it's 1.... so there... ~bb

Yeah I don't know if it was the same Osprey, but while I was there one grabbed a fish, didn't look big. Might not even have been a bass. But Osprey 1, Rick 0.
Probably would have caught something if you wouldn't have talked my ear off for 30 min of the hour I was out there. LOL ~roflmao ~roflmao

OK Then.
Besides all that, anyone been fishing yet this month? I'm going to try and get a few days in, but later in the month we have a trip planned to Branson Mo to see the Grandkids for a week and play some, then Thanksgiving for the entire Family on her side is at our house this year (remember he Dad lives with us now), then I'm thinking about leaving the day after to go to Pa to visit Mom and hunt with my Brother for a few days.
Of course I'm taking a couple of break-down rods to Branson and hitting up Table Rock some while we are there.
Heading to Okeechobee on Saturday with Rick, the weather messed us up this past Saturday and fortunately this Saturday looks a heck of a lot better. In two weeks I return back to Okeechobee and meeting up with WEST and then 2 weeks after that meeting up with FLATS.... come to think about it... I'm going to be busy for the next 4 weeks fishing... lo
I might launch the ka yak this afternoon or tomorrow. Editing this week's video now for the channel. Weather is so nice though.
Also we got a contractor out to the house yesterday. Read a lot of reviews and decided to go with a well known local company. They will even help "fight" the insurance company for us since they left out a ton of stuff in the estimate. They treated all the mold yesterday and are going to be out today to patch the roof (had it patched twice already.. hopefully this one holds) until the insurance company issues more $ for the actual roof cost. We have a dehumidifier and air cleaner going in the house now to help clean the air of more mold spores.
I am just glad something is finally starting to get done.

That is a busy end of the year for sure. I'm going to try and keep busy as well.
West glad stuff is starting to get done on your house and sounds like you got a good contractor to do it and help fighting the insurance company. Lou and Rick y'all have a good day out on Okeechobee and then in two weeks with West on Okeechobee and then in two more weeks out with Flats . Y'all going to Okeechobee again or somewhere else. ;D Fred since your going to be up at Table Rock I'm sure Bo would be happy to take you out fishing with him and you could use his gear and wouldn't have to take any. Just a thought.
Thinking about the winter haven chain on Saturday and Lowery on Sunday. The weather is going to be nice.
Sent from the end of the paved road.....
Went to the retention pond I fished in the spring, publicly accessable, to break in the new Curado. OMG casts like a dream! Tossing a watermelon red flake fluke, started off with two brakes engaged, cast pretty good. Went down to one and really started launching it. Retrieve is so smooth, like an extension of my hand.
So after about twenty casts, I put my cast right next to a pipe sticking up out of the water around 25 feet out. Let it sink line tightened and boom, set the hook on a nice fish. It didn't have a chance, my K winched it in with no stutters, slips, or flex, what a difference from my other reels. See the bragging rights board for pics.

Thanks, sorry about the bump board edge thingie, it broke. Gotta get a new one I guess.
Those break real easy. I used mine without it for a long time. Then the hinges in the middle broke and it all fell apart.
You can keep using it that way without the edge. The ruler I use for bank fishing doesn't have one.

Glad you like your new reel and that was a nice fish . ~c~ ~c~ What's your favorite bait and what did you catch the most fish on?
Well Lip, I really like throwing weightless zoom flukes. I caught almost all of my spring fish on the zoom baby bass, switched to stickbait in the summer with only a few fluke fish and worm fish mixed in, and now back to flukes, with the watermelon red flake and watermelon seed being most successful.
My PB came on a red shad yum dinger, but all my 3 and 4 lbers we're on flukes.

The BPS rulers have a short shelf life. Just like Rick said, the flap is first to go then the hinges. I use the Fish Ruler, the one that can be rolled up. Unfortunately, that has a short shelf life too. The vinyl material also begins to crack over time, but I solved that problem with duct tape.... several long strands of duct tape. lo Thing is though, if I remove the duct tape now, that ruler would be in pieces.. :(

I haven't fished to many flukes so don't know much about them. I'm thinking them must come in different sizes also like my GY Senkos which are mostly the 4" or 5" ones. What size works best for you?

I haven't fished to many flukes so don't know much about them. I'm thinking them must come in different sizes also like my GY Senkos which are mostly the 4" or 5" ones. What size works best for you?
There are three sizes of the Zoom that I have used:
Tiny Fluke 3" solid body. Baitfish imitator, good for dropshotting and umbrella, but I have used them on a size 1 EWG and light spinning tackle with success, but you can't cast far.
Super Fluke Jr 4" split body. I've used this with a 2/0 EWG and caught fish when they are kinda finicky. Casts a fair bit farther than the Tiny
Super Fluke 5.25" split body. My go to. This fluke used with a heavy wire 4/0 EWG can be launched pretty far. I used to use a 3/0, but since my success at Kissimmee with the 4/0's hookup ratio, I have changed over. I have caught 8" fish with these, so anything will chase it, but it definitely gets bigger bites than the Jr. Many of my bass in the spring came on the fall of the bait after the cast, I always wait a ten count befor I start to work it. Just like the one today, line starts moving or tightening, and you know its got it, and they usually choke it.
Then there is the Magnum Super Fluke 7" split body. I haven't used it, but Barry put one on to target bigger fish after he got his limit in Kissimmee, and sure enough, he hooked up with a biggun. Unfortunately didn't land it. The baitfish were fairly big, so he also caught a few of the 14-15 inch fish with it as well. A really big bruiser of a bait. Will get some to try this spring.
I use the 4/0 EWG hooks on my Senkos also . I might have to do a little looking around and check out some of them Flukes for next spring. I hate to say it but I think that 40 bags of GY Senkos is enough for right now ~roflmao ~roflmao
So far the measuring device that I am currently using has lasted me the longest. It folds up and is easy to carry around. But it is in .5 increments. So I had to modify it with a sharpie to make it .25 increments.

I'm going to check into getting me one of them type of measuring sticks before next spring and see if they will make the fish lay still just a little longer than my tape measure ;D

I haven't fished to many flukes so don't know much about them. I'm thinking them must come in different sizes also like my GY Senkos which are mostly the 4" or 5" ones. What size works best for you?

Oh I am talking about the salty bones one

The one you are talking about is a bump board. The bump board does help a bit. But for bank fishing its pretty big.
The park was ok today. It was a slow start, but I started to move around, found a productive area. Fished the centipede a couple of different ways and managed to catch 6 fish but 3 were contest worthy... Lol.
Thanks for the report Lou and glad you caught some fish this afternoon with 3 of them being good enough to put in the contest and give you some to cull out this weekend when you and Rick go back to Lake O ;D

Well my plans got changed. Planned to fish tomorrow but the daughter called to see if I would watch the boys tomorrow and part of Saturday.
Had my Deer Hunting plans worked out I would of said no and hunted Saturday. Since they didn't I get to enjoy "my" boys some more.
Won't be long until I'm taking them fishing.

Cport, thanks for that Fluke lesson. I rarely let them fall for long before I start working them. The big fish for me at Kissimmee came while letting one fall while I was talking to West.

I discovered it by accident too. Cast out, lit a cig, fish was there when I finished. I do the same with my stick baits too. I let them sit even longer 20 to 25 seconds. I've had them picked up while I was checking a text in the middle of a cast, sat there for about 30 seconds when I was getting ready to Twitch it the line started moving Bang!

Midday mini report. The fish are zeroed in on Shad. But, you cast towards the commotion and you are getting hit. We have over 7 in the boat so far, but we have had to work. Plus, must be a huge tournament out here because I never seen so many boats coming and going through this area before.
Thanks for the mini report Lou and glad y'all are catching some of them fish. Now put down your phone and go get some of them big girls. ~bb
Walt and I fished the river this morning. Each in our own boat. I boated 4-5 but only measured one. The rest were smaller. All on fluke. Slow bite. Water temp is down to 67F. That's 15 degrees cooler than two weeks ago. Water is still a tad high for my liking. Should get better if water gets back around 72F this week.

Lou that's how it is in the SJR when the Shad are running. School comes through the water starts blowing up and IF you cast into the mix you will get bit.
No water busting your arm can drop off and not one bite.

Come on down any time. Nothing like the St Johns, much smaller. Only about 7-8 miles in length above the dam. No tides due to the dam. Water level and flow is managed by bypass channels. Majority of the river is no wake. Not heavily pressured. I saw 3 other boats today. Some shad but main forage fish are tilapia and juvenile bream, I believe. Lots of quality fish but you have to work for them most of the time.
Barry that sounds sort of like a lake on the River.
My overall plans changed again. Daughter called and wanted to know how long I would keep the boys. She got a Promotion to Zone Manager this season so she is now over 5 DM's and all over their Halloween Stores. This is a "test period" for her and they said if she did well that next year it would become permanent and in the off-season she would get what they call a Special Projects position.
That is a big jump from where she was before and would make a big difference in their lives financially.
So I'm doing what I can to help them out until this season ends. Her husband (my old work partner) is still working tearing down stores and such through Thanksgiving. He is one of 3 that they kept on.
So, Papa is watching the Boys at least on days that Grammy works. I should be able to get out a couple of days this month.
Tough on the Fishing and Hunting, Great for Time with My Grandsons and learning more about them.
"Barry that sounds sort of like a lake on the River."
On the southern end, yes. South of the 56th bridge, you can run on plane down to the dam and the river is several hundred yards wide.
The northern section is more like a river through a swamp and less than a hundred yards wide with a lot of cypress trees.
I think I've posted some pictures previously of both sections. Beautiful!

@Walt or Barry... Walt what tin boat is that?
It's a Lowes 18 something. Walt has tricked it out with dual talons (we installed them in my garage), led lighting, spotlight, etc... It's a great boat, except in the wind. Very light compared to mine. Walt can tell you more...
In the picture, we are on the northern portion of the river, just south of the Fowler Ave bridge. The river is only about 50 yards wide. I'm fishing one side while he fishes the other.

Very nice tin.. trust me when I say I understand how tin handles in the wind. But those twin Talons DEFINITELY help!!
Tress has been asking me about Horseshoe lake, so we decided to meet up this morning. Launched about 7:15 in his bass buggy, with trolling motor and fish finder. Just enough room for two guys standing, about 11 rods, and our tackle. Started working frogs and skitter top plastic baits, no takers. Moved down the shoreline and I started working the fluke while Jeff starting throwing a KVD 2.5 "woops"y Shad squarebill towards the center of the lake when he got pounded. Nice 21" 4 lb 14 oz fish.
He continued to work the crank and got another fish, about 15". So I tied on a bomber A I had and started cranking too. Got a small one that I didn't measure, but it was my first crankbait fish! After we both didn't get any more on the crank, I started throwing a swimbait, Jeff worked a number of presentations. Very slow. It was time to start heading back as I had to get home for something, so we started working the shoreline again on the way back. I had been throwing and throwing and started to get complacent. I looked to Jeff to say something while in auto pilot when my bait got absolutely hammered! It practically hooked itself. Immediately started peeling drag on my shimano solstice. jumped a few times and both of us said, "That's a good fish!". After a few minutes of drag surges and taking me under the boat, boated a nice 20" fish. Forgot to weigh, but Jeff and I agreed it was 4 lbs or a tad over (he totally called his fish to the ounce earlier).
After I had caught a few more that measured and one that threw me, Jeff swapped his wacky for a fluke, and about 5-8 minutes later got a top water hit but missed him. I definitely was over my time limit so we headed in. Jeff was very accommodating with his boat and as a frontseat, he made sure I caught fish, and although it was my home lake, he acted more like I was his guest. He went to target some more after I left, the bite had definitely picked up. Great morning, got to catch fish and meet another UB member!
I thought Mrs. cport would be sore with me, as I was about an hour later than I said I would be. But she figured I was into something, coz she said," OK show me the picture". After I showed her the fish she said oh my gosh and asked me how the whole morning was. Ever seen the Matrix? I felt like I was Neo dodging a bullet lo She gets me.
Good report Cport, productive outing. If you can, move this report over to the Florida report threads and title it Horseshoe Lake.

Not really surprised. With the water up like it was even a lot of private land near the river was not huntable so a lot of guys hunted this WMA during archery.

Fred, I put my two cents in. FWIW, PP pays put a lot more in endorsements and advertising and I think that is why you see more on newer boats.

Cold front hit here starting last night. I was thinking of fishing a Bank Spot I found, but if I do it will be a bit later when it warms up some.

Dang West that sounds like a great deal! Hope you get it.

Yeah I don't know what their deal is. It was nice and overcast this morning. I thought for sure there were going to be some frog action. When there was none, I went to a worm. Still no bites. Switched lakes and got a bite on a swimbait, but missed. Threw back into the same area and got hit again this time I hooked the little guy. Guess he was hangry.

I'm thinking (yes I know, dangerous) that presentation needs to be super slow. Everything I have caught has been on the fall of the initial cast.
Rick at least you caught one even if it was a dink. ;D

It was a slow retrieve with the swimbait. But even before that a worm at the bottom wasn't getting bites. So I think it was just that 1 fish that went against the grain.
It had been tough up here too.
Fished from 9:30 to 2:30. Had 7 bites. Lost one at boat.
Very slow.

Nice fish! The river or elsewhere?
Finally getting over the flu. It's had me beat down for two weeks where all I could do was work and sleep. Finishing up a contract today and starting a new one tomorrow that has an accelerated schedule with a bonus for early completion and a penalty for being late. I'm not sure the boat is even going to see the water in November.

Haven't tried the River yet, although I've heard a few ramps are opening up now.
I tried one of the smaller lakes I fish and the water was still so high you couldn't see the ramp, so I passed on that one. Went back to Diaz and once again it was packed with guys that fish the river. About the only place I can get on up here.
Cport it wasn't all that big, bu probably would of culled the smallest one.
Bites were very scattered. 2 on a worm and the rest on flukes. nothing really big, but better than nothing!

Sorry to hear your had that flu bug but glad your doing better now. Dang your going to be busy if you can't get out and do a little fishing. :'(
Park was tough today. Only managed 4 fish, no culls. Fish were scattered and were playing very hard to get. If they aren't motivated to pounce on a centipede, it's going to be a slooow outing. Lol!!

I know the park has been tough for the last 2-3 weeks. They have sprayed and basically killed off all the spatter dock that was growing in different parts of the lake. I don't know if the spraying has effected them or not, but the bite rate has dropped off significantly compared to last month. :'(

Lou if you ask the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission they would say that spraying don't cause the fish to not bite.
At some point these bass have to turn back on. They are completely shut down.
It's cooler than usual this morning so that may not be helping.

Every body of water that I have fished after a recent spraying has been terrible for a few months. The dead weeds go to the bottom and rot, this reduces oxygen levels in the water, and no ambush points for big bass to hide. They move off to happier locations if they can. It takes a long time to get back to normal. They spray often in some Weston lakes especially residential areas, and vista view when the hydrilla tops off.. ~rant

Went to the park late in the afternoon for a little while and decided to change things up a bit. I fished one of limestone lakes in an area I haven't fished for over 6 months. Since the wind was from the North this area was ideal to fish around. The bite was slow but I did manage 2 fish. Still can't get over how clean and pretty these fish are. Also the first pic I'm showing is the actual clarity of the water, and yes the clouds can be seen reflecting on the water... Lol
I was using the centipede again :)

Lip we hired a local contractor company who sent out there own adjuster. They are handling the insurance company for us. We are waiting to hear back now. The insurance company shorted all kinds of stuff, kinda sad really. My mother in law had 30 shingles missing on here 20 year old roof.. they gave her more $ than us.. same company we have lol.. our house is 10 years old and we have water damages and she doesn't.
We found we have some cabinets damaged from the water leakage so they added that as well. Actually they might have to do a while kitchen. Who knows what the insurance company is going to go for though. I just want the house back to normal so it will sell. Just a waiting game at this point. Our roof has been dried in (4th time now) and the mold and attic was dried out with equipment. Just waiting for the insurance company to approve more so the contractor can get it all done.
Does it look like I'm swinging for the fences on my Lake O trip with West?

You should just go with the new Gambler GZ.
On a more serious note, I'm hearing some fish are already bedding. Dont know if the big girls go first or later.

Big Girls go first, but I'm sure they have been spawning for a little while already. As far throwing that bait, the water is so high right now that, that bait will not get hung up in the open flats right now.
Those live target swimbaits go through grass pretty good. I threw the smaller one today at the park, and I could feel it going through the grass. It never got hung or anything. Though hydrilla is a different animal. But yeah if you throw it in the right places you might be ok. I am sure if you give it a fair chance and throw it as much as you throw your frog you should connect with a fish.
West if he hits you with that thing, it's game over. Call the coroner.

You have an iphone, unfortunatly the iphone camera is known to take upside down pics when facing it towards the floor. Ask me how I know...
I have to rotate the majority of my pics before I post them. It's a defect of the iphone I haven't been able to figure out how to remedy yet. I don't know if there is a good way do angle the phone to get a pic that doesn't require rotating after the fact.

OK, whatever works for folks. My phone Samsung S7, I take the picture in portrait, hit edit, select ratio (16:9) which puts a landscape box in the center of picture which I move to center the fish, and save. So basically I crop out a 16:9 landscape of the portrait centered on the fish.
I take one of these with me.

lo lo lo I take pictures on my phone then email then to myself then open them up in paint and resize them then save them to my computer then load them up in Image Shack where I then can rotate them. That works for me and don't take a lot of time. I just can't do all this stuff from my phone. lo
I almost always have to rotate my pics. Just use edit and then make it how I want it.
I take a picture then post it. Sometimes I have to flip or edit it. Sometimes I don't care lol

Lol... thanks Lip. The flowers were a nice touch. :)
Well Lou, sorry for your loss. At least you know where she lives, what she likes to eat, and she is still swimming around the area. Stay after her!
I'd add my condolences, but they wouldn't be heartfelt lol

You said what I was thinking lol
We got some really good news this week. We found out we got the spot at John Pennekamp State Park next year! We will be there 2 months volunteering for a free camp site.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, safe travels if you're on the road and tight lines if you're fishing :-)

That's great news Thomas ~c~ ~c~
Congrats Thomas! That is great news.
Went to Tamiami trail today. Picked up a couple bass on stick baits. Got several strikes on a swimjig but they had all the makings of mudfish strikes. Lost one good fish but it felt like a mudder. Then caught a big one on the same swimjig.

Thanks West.
Rick, hope you left that mudfish on the bank for the buzzards and flies to eat! I hate those things!!!

No sir i dropped it back in the water.
They don't bother me much. They put up a good fight though they are notorious for destroying baits.
Gar on the other hand, I can't stand.

I wouldn't put it past Rick that he might try, but his main fishing spot is effected right now. ~sweat
My fishing has been limited by an early sunset and by stupid santa's enchanted forest. Stupid Christmas!!!!
Anyways yeah if I do fish after work it will be night fishing and I doubt I will be able to get any of that in.
I do have tomorrow off, so I'll fish tomorrow morning and see what happens.
Well,
Got cold up here over the weekend. Morning temps were in low 30's with wind chills in low 20's.
Good for deer hunting!
Climbed in the stand at 6:00 am and all through the day shots rang out all around me. Saw 3 does and 3 IDKs (just flashes) by 4:30 pm. Sat all day.
Was packing up my gear at 4:45 pm while thinking of where to go the next day. Then I caught movement and saw a deer and it had horns.
Before I could get the gun on it it had moved through the opening in the thick stuff. Had nothing to loose so used my grunt call twice. Within a minute he was standing in a lane looking for me. Verified he was legal and shot.
Old warrior with a busted up rack. Was a 10-pt but had broke off both G3's and one main beam at the Rt G3.
Made me happy. Shot him at 4:58. Minutes before dark.

Nice Fred, sounds like a long day on the stand the day before for sure!
Glad you got one.
Nice one Fred ~c~ ~c~ Glad you got one and you did put in a lot of time to get him.
Very nice, Fred.
-Barry-
BBD! (Big Buck Down) Nice Deadeye! Congrats on a nice deer.
Thanks guys.
Heading back today. Going to drive as far as I can stand then stop if I need to.
Sitting in that cold air and wind all day did wonders for my back, NOT.
Man that night it flared up big time. Glad I got one the first day, not sure I could of made it another. Could hardly stand or bend Monday night. Better some now.
Nice one there Fred.
Now come on back to the warmth of Florida lol.

Made it in late last night, drove all the way home. Several back-ups on the way cost me time.
Slept in until after 10:00.
Well....I tried to improve my Top 5 this evening but the bass thought other wise. I'm done for the month. I don't think anyone is fishing this evening so I think I'm calling the month early.
I will work on December's thread right now.
