Lou did DISCO.

Dale
Disco!?! That sound track was old school funk. Big difference.
No, not so much, but I like both.

Nope, whenever I can picture John Travolta, all decked out in white and dancing to a song, it's disco.

I have had a lot of feed back from my viewers about the "rod shop" videos that I have done the last few weeks.  A large portion of it was requests to see actual rod building videos.  So after a little research in the niche, and realizing that most of the content is old, I decided to start doing a few "how to" videos from the rod shop.  They are scripted and a little easier to manage both from camera gear setup and editing standpoints.  However, I did not want to dilute my content on the AE Fishing channel so today I launched a new channel.  FDx Custom Rods.  You should see it pop up in your browse at some point but here is a link to the new channel.

Man it's been a long time since I built a fishin' pole. I look forward to seeing how things have changed.

Finished my latest Lake Okeechobee video. It was tough outing but I put together a fish catching pattern and hopefully the video conveys it. Tried a couple of new things, lets see if the viewers like it.

I told you!  Months ago...

I've got one that I don't like, published  months ago, that keeps steadily getting views.

Proving that it's not about us,

It's about them,

The Viewer.  Period.

You want to know my tip/trick for Lake "Big Water"? You already figured out 1/2 of the equation with slow n steady. The other is, pay close attention to where you caught the fish and make note of the bottom type/makeup of that area. South Bay and the ghost islands are "inconsistent bottom" as in areas that go from rock to sand, to shell, to muck quick. Where one end of the island will be rocky, while the other could be sand/shell or muck.

Appreciate the info. Hard to believe there's hard bottom out there. When was the last time you were out in those areas? You might not recognize it today. All that beautiful lush vegetation is gone, it seems like its all muck. But we can have that discussion over on the FL forums.  :-* 8)
Me, I was out there earlier this month, I was back on the submerged roadbeds all the way up to the treehouse & "beach".

Good info though for those wanting to travel there.

Any chance we could pin a list of all the member's channels?  I'd like to make sure I've subbed to everyone's.
That's a good idea Scott. Welcome to the thread. I will move your suggestions up the chain and see how we can do this. Thank you.

My Lake O video dropped a little ago. Titled: Lake Okeechobee: Slow Fishing? Seek Structure!!

First, I need to send out a huge thanks to FD for his guidance. I can be very, very stubborn, and he's nudged me to stay the course on my YT journey.  I'm 6 months into this journey, and my channel is finally gaining traction. Exciting to watch the growth considering all the work I have put into this experience. I'm not slowing down!!  ~bb ~bb Thanks FD.  ~beer~

I've been doing some research on my channel this morning looking for trends that might help my new channel grow faster than the AE channel.  One discovery was that my second highest performing video over the last 28 days is one that I published on Sep 21.  Let that sink in.

This video has never been a barn burner but it is a steady, plod along, consistent view producer. During the last 28 days it is responsible for 598 views, 45.1 hours of watch time, and brought in 6 new subscribers that are now watching my other videos.  And I did not even catch a fish. I was just teaching what I would do to catch fish...

Not all that impressive on the surface, but imagine if I had 100 of these...59,800 views, 4,510 watch hours, and 600 new viewers per month.  Based on some other research I've done that would be in the neighborhood of $ 4,000 per month of income, from the YT partner program alone, just from the slow and steady, plodding along videos.

My point is, don't judge anything about your YT channel too early.  I'm paying attention to my current video analytics but I will not pass final judgement until a video is at least a year old.  And I'm not looking at the overall channel from a business perspective until July, 2023, which will give me 2 full years of data to look at.

FD, you certainly sound like you know what your doing.  Good luck, I hope it meets all expectations.  I for one enjoy watching both you and Lou, and since I am familiar with some of the locations it makes it that much more entertaining.  Nothing like a successful plan! ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Thanks G.  We appreciate you spending your time watching our videos.

Honestly, I have very little idea what I'm doing..  what I am certain of is what I going to DO.

25+ years of owning businesses has taught me this.  Nothing happens overnight. Every successful,  substainable business takes years of hard work and thousands of hours invested to get it to that point.

I postponed my video drop set for Monday to today. Had a great YT meeting with FD and let's just say I was shown some pretty cool techniques. So much so, I went back and re-edited the video. Cut out 5 min, and changed a few things. Exporting now, should drop sometime today. Thanks FD!!  ~beer~

I added a gopro remote to my video pack. Walking back and forth to stop and start cameras becomes a real pita when your on the water for long periods of times like I am.

I came across this remote, and I broke in today. It's a keeper. So much easier to record. Only problem is the battery wears down after 4 hours or so. Ugh...

One can program upto 50 cameras on it and it will operate the gopro from 600 ft away.

Any chance we could pin a list of all the member's channels?  I'd like to make sure I've subbed to everyone's.

I did not forget about this idea.  It is absolutely coming but with some restrictions to keep it "active member" based.  We don't want just anyone who has a YT channel to come in and do nothing but post their videos and not "actively" participate in the community here and expect to be included in a promotional thread.  That's what the hold up is.  Fairly defining what an active member is solely for the purpose of being included in the official list of UB YouTubers and promoted by UB in the spotlight sticky thread.

Since I can't nail this down, I'm going to ask for input here.  The idea is to have a sticky thread that highlights all of the active UB'ers YT channel. UB is growing and inclusion in that list will have a significant impact in the future.  What minimum requirements would you like to see to be included in that list?

That, on the surface, sounds like it should be an easy thing to do. But when you look at it from a much larger scale it is not.  I'm all for putting up a sticky page to promote the 4-6 guys we have here at the moment but as admin we have to make decisions based on what they may become in the future.

What do you think the requirements should be?

Should Charter Membership status be required?

How many "meaningful" posts in the last 6 months?

Should length of membership on UB matter?

Should we promote channels that are not specifically related to fishing?

I'm going to get this done in the next week or so and would really appreciate your input on this.
