How expensive is it to get set up to pour your own plastic....and does
it save you enough money to justify the venture......

everything is relative...the three guys here that pour the most, as far as I can tell are: earthworm, senko sam and bass1cpr...they can tell you anything you need to know.

Javelin225HO Welcome to the world of plastic. Lots of fun and you can build anything that you want.
Making the prototype is easy the hard part getting the molds to come out.  lo
If you haven't found it yet Look for Tackle Underground on the web. It's a site just for tackle making. Lots of info in the different forums. Good luck.

If your plastics look half as good as the custom pait jobs then you will have one sweet product. ~gf

Top Cat you can get set up with some basic stuff for around a $100 starter kit.

I never figured out how to post a link here and I'm not interested in learning.  lo

I can drop you an e-mail with a link to a couple of the suppliers.

   Just let me know.

Thanks for the compliment......we have been painting our butts off lately.  alot of top secret patterns that are GS14 classified... lo

we have been putting alot of our old stuff on Ebay and doing pretty good there.

i made some fiberglass molds the other day and have 3 more molds to pour tomorrow.  i have done some surgery on some giant lizards and brush hogs....i think its gonna be a good lure.

sooner or later plastics will be available on the site.

Hey Bass1cpr.....
If you have the time, can you send me some of those links.
Sharon and I have been talkin about pourin some of our own worms and flukes.
The ones that take Pay Pal are more desireable.

Thanks in advance

Are there any molds available, or do you have to make your own?

i made my own out of fiberglass resin....check out Tackleunderground.com

also, check out Del-Mart.com

Del and April are class acts.....#1 customer service and will answer any questions you have about getting started. also they sell aluminum molds that kick some major butt from what i read......

Pferox

Now this is just a mix and pour kind of thing, right?

Whats involved with injection molding.....can that be done on an amature basis?

well, from what i have derived, its not just a mix and pour.....you have to add salt, softener, color, glitter/flake, garlic/fish scent......its somewhat complex. you have to have the plastic heated to a certain temp, around 300-380 degrees.....

we will see on tuesday! i cant wait to get my order.

Pferox

Keep me posted Nick,
We are serously thinkin about it, I can't seem to get the colors I like anymore.

if it works out, they will be on our website....you can request anything you want! i have been doing surgery on some stuff and coming up with some crazy baits.....now just hope they look good when poured in one piece!

Pferox

Thats neat.
For the most part, fishin down here is pretty basic on the colors, although others will tell ya otherwise.

I fish more Spinnerbaits, and flukes, but I'm tryin to find a cheaper replacement for the DOA shimp for salt.

DOA Shrimps......
They cost about 2 bucks each and last about 2 fish if you are lucky.
Plastics have a short life span in salt water fishin, too many toothy fish.  ::)

Pferox

Yea, I know.
